This is a diocesan job posting that will support all high schools in the diocese. These schools are: Aurora Central Catholic High School Boylan Central Catholic High School Marian Central Catholic High School Newman Central Catholic High School St. Edward Central Catholic High School Job Title: Science Teacher Reports to: Department Chair Position Summary: The Science Teacher at Boylan Catholic High School plays a pivotal role in fostering a comprehensive and engaging learning environment within the framework of Catholic values. Responsible for instructing students in various scientific disciplines, the teacher is expected to impart a strong foundation in scientific principles while integrating moral and ethical considerations in the teaching approach. The Science Teacher will develop students' skills and competence in one or more fields of science, including general science, Earth science, biology, physiology, chemistry, and physics. Areas of Responsibility: The essential role of the Catholic school teacher is to witness the Gospel message and to lead students to reflect on a Christian approach to life while building the faith community. A teacher should provide students with opportunities to develop their gifts as peacemakers and stewards for the service of the world community. Designing, developing, and delivering quality lesson plans and curricula that adhere to national and school guidelines. Deliver high-quality, engaging instruction in the form of discussion, direct teaching, demonstrations, and independent practice using a variety of proven methods. Differentiate lessons when needed to give all students access to the curriculum regardless of disability, instructional level, English proficiency, or level of interest in the subject. Drawing up suitable assessments and delivering helpful feedback to students, parents, and other teachers. Establishing classroom, lab, and field trip rules and regulations and ensuring that all students understand what is expected of them. Setting up demonstrations and assisting and supervising students while they conduct experiments. Providing extra resources, support, and interventions for students who are struggling. Grading papers, updating records, and handling various administrative tasks. Creating an environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and voicing concerns. Participating in other school activities and regularly communicating with parents. Evaluate student performance on tasks established by the standards using different methods such as observation, performance-based tasks, or other standard test practices. Maintain a safe, orderly, and supportive classroom by modeling expected behavior and standards, promoting positive interactions, and quickly addressing behaviors that are not in line with the school discipline plan. Improve skills and knowledge in teaching by regularly taking classes, attending workshops, and discovering new methods of delivering exciting content to students. Work with school administration to develop curriculum, revise school policies, and implement new technology. Assist with initiatives and activities within the school such as standardized testing, class-level presentations, and course forecasting. Other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of the latest methods and trends for teaching science Ability to work with colleagues to design and teach multi-disciplinary courses Ability to use computer network systems and software applications as needed. Ability to organize and coordinate work. Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents. Ability to engage in self-evaluation about performance and professional growth. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work. Ability to work with colleagues to design and teach multi-disciplinary courses The ability to answer sensitive questions and create an environment where everyone’s opinions are respected. Qualifications: Bachelor's or Master's from an accredited college or university in an education discipline applicable to teaching assignment. Illinois Professional Educator Licensure Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade level is preferred.
