Description Job Summary: Provides high-quality, patient-centered health care to pediatric patients (aged newborn to 18 years). Provides leadership that promotes safety, quality, cooperation, advocacy and collaboration helping to implement programs, workflows and quality measures. Acts as a champion for programs such as Patient Centered Medical Home (PCMH) and other programs required in a successful community health center. Provides clinical supervision for nurse practitioners and/or physician assistants performing pediatric care. Provides supervision for medical residents and/or other healthcare students who may be rotating in the clinic. Essential Functions and Responsibilities : Provides high quality patient care. Care must be provided within the FTCA scope of services as defined by Health West (HW). Healthcare should include use of HW clinical guidelines when applicable. Utilize sound clinical judgement and problem-solving skills to address patient care problems. Promotes safety and quality within worksites at HW including promoting cooperation, problem-solving, and maintaining standards of practice as described in the HW policies. Fosters a spirit of collaboration, education and cooperation amongst the medical staff including direct supervision of nurse practitioners and physician assistants (in accord with State Boards of Nursing and Medicine regulations) as needed, consultation with medical colleagues as requested, including other HW clinicians and maintains flexibility to meet schedule and patient needs. Promotes HW image as a health center striving to meet the health care needs of our community and advocating for high-quality health care for all, with particular focus on care for the underserved. Maintains a work schedule as assigned by the Chief Medical Officer including on-call coverage (for physicians with hospital duties) as assigned and participates in education sessions or medical staff meetings as required. Maintains hospital privileges in good standing at Portneuf Medical Center. Maintains PALS certification. Works closely with the Clinic Administrator and Team Leads of the clinic(s) to assist in establishing proper clinical activities and quality measurements. Clinical activities include, but are not limited to, Patient Centered Medical Home, Meaningful Use requirements, and activities required by Heath West for reporting to the federal government. Supports the Health West Director of Quality, the Director of Behavioral Health, the Chief Operations Officer, and other personnel as they implement workflows and other processes aimed at improving nursing, reception, behavioral health, prescription assistance, and outreach care. Notes areas of medical deficiency within the clinic(s) and suggests ways to make improvements. Is a positive team player, helping to maximize the good of the team. Provides supervision to medical residents in the clinic as needed. Is amenable to clinic schedule changes so Health West can maximize patient care for the good of the patients and their respective communities. Is amenable to traveling to outlying clinics to oversee pediatric services. Reviews quality of care provided by Health West medical personnel through periodic chart review and other review as required by the Chief Medical Officer. Assists the Chief Medical Officer in determining the need, and arranging for, continuing education opportunities for medical personnel. Periodically presents medical topics in provider meetings for the edification of all Health West providers. Periodically meets with the Chief Medical Officer and the Chief Executive Officer to define clinical goals, personal goals, and review the progress of Health West operations. Assumes additional duties as required by the Chief Medical Officer. Performance Criteria: Provides high-quality medical care to patients as evaluated by medical staff colleagues and the Chief Medical Officer. Communicates effectively particularly if supervising nurse practitioners and physician assistants. Practices according to HW Standards of Practice including being punctual and reliable about showing up at scheduled times. Maintains accurate and complete medical charts in a timely fashion including appropriate documentation of quality clinical measure. Provides appropriate billing and coding information on chart audits as per CPT requirements. Works well with clinic staff and other HW personnel. Relates effectively with patients according to patient satisfaction surveys. Completes diagnosis coding on all medical encounters. Meets established productivity performance standards for clinicians. Confidentiality is maintained, and HIPAA policies are complied with at all times. Becomes an EMR superuser to maximize clinical efficiency and is able to provide quality data in a meaningful way, including UDS and PCMH measures to the Health West network Is supervised and evaluated by the Chief Medical Officer or his/her designee. Other duties normally required of a pediatric physician Infection Control: Applies handwashing principles during daily work, demonstrates understanding of isolation precautions; recognizes signs and symptoms and complies with employee health policies; demonstrates understanding the process for identifying and handling infectious waste; maintains personal hygiene; demonstrates understanding of cross-contamination and complies with OSHA standards in the work place. OSHA Classification: Normal work routine involves potential for mucous membrane or skin contact with blood and/or body fluids; use of appropriate protective measures is required. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: Fully accredited physician licensed with the Idaho State Board of Medicine Carries DEA and similar, applicable licensing. Board Certified or Board Eligible (or similar designation) as a physician Understands, or is willing to learn, the dynamics of underserved patient populations, including the homeless and migrant/seasonal farm workers. Computer literate with credible typing, texting and e-mail skills Fluent in English. Preferred Qualifications: Bilingual in English and Spanish. NHSC Loan Repayment Available Licensed health care providers may earn toward student loans in exchange for a two-year commitment at an NHSC-approved site through the NHSC Loan Repayment Program (NHSC LRP) .
