Description
Summary of Position : The Seasonal College Intern - Events and Special Initiatives will develop skills in nonprofit program management and event planning. The Seasonal College Intern - Events and Program Initiatives position will provide support to aspects of After School Matters programming including event planning and execution for donor stewardship events; fundraising events; events relating to programs that are specially funded by a corporation or partners (for example, ComEd, Peoples Gas, Related Midwest and Related Affordable Foundation). The intern will gain a broad exposure to the inner workings of a high-functioning nonprofit organization, and will develop skills in event planning, donor relations, and nonprofit fundraising. The intern will assist the Development team in overall administration and logistics of event planning and execution. This role will perform work directly related to the general business operations of After School Matters.
Location : Prudential Tower - 103 E. Randolph. Chicago, IL 60601
Schedule : The expected start date for this role is June 15th and the expected end date is August 21st. This will be a full time position.
Major Duties and Responsibilities : Assist in the planning and coordination of meetings, orientations, and events Support Development department with special initiatives, events, and recruitment needs as assigned Attend and support donor stewardship events such as the Board and Campaign Summer Celebration, Summer Tour Series, and corporate workshops Attend and support showcases and events for specially funded programs Assist with events by checking in guests, wayfinding, participating in setup and strike, and other duties Support event-related planning tasks such as managing nametag creation, inventorying and transporting supplies, creating forms, and tracking RSVPs and attendance Assist with administrative duties related to planning the After School Matters Gala Research event vendors, update budgets, and prepare check requests Travel throughout the city to attend events and visit programs at ASM’s facilities Support supervisor in maintaining professional relationships with local partners, donors and vendors Independent travel to check on teens and programs Support Development department with tracking of expenses and data entry Collaborate effectively with the entire Development department, including the individual giving team and corporate giving team, to support fundraising efforts and donor relations Site visit to ASM buildings (Lutz Center, Gallery 37, Gately, Orleans) and community programs Other duties as assigned Supervisory Responsibilities: None

Problem solving abilities and analytical skills Organizational skills Oral and written communication skills Dependability, accuracy, and attention to detail Ability to plan, create and execute safe and successful events Ability to meet deadlines, manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously, and provide effective follow-up with staff Ability to interact with members of the public, donors, and event guests with professionalism Willingness to jump in and assist colleagues and guests when working events Willingness and ability to travel throughout Chicago to attend events, transport materials and visit programs Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google software; excellent familiarity with Excel is a plus
Qualifications : Currently attending a post-secondary institution, in an undergraduate or graduate program
Compensation : $18 / hour
