Description
This safety sensitive role is structured on a 40 hour work week, however on call responsibilities are an essential function of this job. Employees must have the ability and willingness to support operations of mission critical systems and/or processes when required. On-call assignments may include after-hours, weekends and holidays.
• Occasional business travel when required.
Responsibilities
•Develop, manage and mobilize a transportation team (union and non-union) to ensure system fluidity and cross-functional collaboration to drive results;
• Demonstrates a commitment to safety for all stakeholders by knowing the safety requirements for a given situation, executing the safety rules and expectations with excellence, and applying effective and appropriate tactics in sustaining Safety-focused behavior change;
• Embed a safety culture mindset within span of control;
• Demonstrates operational excellence by knowing and applying the business requirements. Demonstrates customer focus and contingency planning to ensure stakeholder expectations are met;
• Understands the relevant business metrics and applies effective tactics to sustain a culture of operational effectiveness that produces teams of high performing, engaged and empowered operational leaders;
• Responsible for all aspects of regulatory compliance in the railway across span of control within safety management systems;
• Oversees track inspection and track maintenance programs including planning and infrastructure;
• Defines and communicates clearly the team’s roles and responsibilities; holds people accountable for accomplishing objectives; recognizes and rewards people who achieve results and deliver on performance expectations; provides pinpointed (specific & measurable) feedback on performance;
• Develops and retains a strong team of high performers; creates a challenging and rewarding work environment; organizes a diverse group of people into a cohesive team to leverage their energy, knowledge and skills; creates grassroots / localized events to train & develop others - including location-specific safety training, regular recognition or team-building activities;
• Effectively manages crew scheduling in accordance with bargained collective agreements;
• Efficiently integrate and manage resources (asset utilization, staff);
• Other duties as may be assigned.
Qualifications
•10 or more years of combined railway operations, maintenance of way/track management, and leadership experience in managing and leading people;
• Experience in managing a multi-customer and multi-stakeholder environment.
• Strong strategic skills and business acumen combined with the ability to motivate teams to deliver high-quality standards
• Ability to establish and maintain positive, professional, internal and external work relationships with all stakeholders.
• Proven experience in monitoring safety compliance in accordance with railway regulations.
• Possess problem solving and strong analytical skills.
• Must be a self-directed, highly motivated and proactive leader.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Demonstrated experience in operating with high level of integrity.
• Willing to rotate their own schedule to be visible to all clients, team members as needed.
