Quality Control Inspector – Structural Steel Fabrication Job Type: Contract-to-Hire Pay Rate: Up to $32.00/hour, depending on experience Position Overview We are seeking a Quality Control Inspector with experience in structural steel fabrication to join our team. This role is responsible for ensuring fabricated steel components, welding, and coatings meet customer specifications, industry codes, and company quality standards. This is a hands-on position that requires significant time on the production floor. Candidates should be comfortable working in an active manufacturing environment with minimal office work and exposure to varying temperatures. Why Join Us? Key Responsibilities Inspect fabricated structural steel components to ensure compliance with project specifications, quality requirements, and applicable industry standards. Verify compliance with AWS D1.1, AWS D1.5, AISC, and other relevant codes and standards. Inspect incoming materials, parts, and consumables for quality and conformance. Identify and document inspected materials according to established procedures. Maintain quality control records, logs, and inspection documentation. Calibrate and maintain welding equipment and quality inspection tools. Support welder qualification testing and certification activities. Assist with training initiatives related to welding, fitting, and quality standards. Manage drawing control and other quality-related processes. Collaborate closely with production and management teams to resolve quality concerns. Participate in continuous improvement efforts and company training programs. Promote and support workplace safety initiatives and safe work practices. Qualifications Required Minimum of 2 years of experience in structural steel fabrication. Experience in quality control, inspection, or a related manufacturing role. Working knowledge of AWS D1.1, AWS D1.5, and AISC standards. Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings and specifications. Experience using quality inspection tools, including: Fillet weld gauges V-WAC gauges Squares Tape measures Other standard inspection equipment Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and safety. Preferred Current Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification. Experience with nondestructive testing methods, including: Ultrasonic Testing (UT) Magnetic Particle Testing (MT) Penetrant Testing (PT) Additional certifications related to structural steel fabrication, bolting, coatings, or welding inspection. Previous experience in steel manufacturing environments. Work Environment Primarily shop-floor based role with limited office time. Active manufacturing environment. Non-climate-controlled facility. Requires standing, walking, and inspecting materials throughout the workday.
