Community engagement lies at the heart of our projects, driven by a genuine commitment to meaningful and inclusive participation and co-benefits, such as biodiversity conservation and socioeconomic upliftment. </p>\n<p> </p>\n<p>NatCarbon Africa seeks Quality Controllers in the Operations Department for the large-scale Spekboom Restoration Project in the Eastern and Western Cape Provinces of South Africa.</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p>With our partner, Imperative Global, our aim is to restore up to 100,000 hectares of degraded subtropical thicket biome. The Project entails planting Spekboom (<em>Portulacaria afra</em>) on privately owned land to improve ecosystem functioning and agricultural productivity over time, promote biodiversity, improve soil filtration, enhance water storage capabilities, and to reduce soil erosion. The Project is estimated to permanently store large quantities of Carbon Dioxide over the Project life, thus positively contributing towards climate change mitigation.</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Position Summary:</span> </p>\n<p> </p>\n<p>Reporting to the Project Extension Officer, the Quality Controller will play a crucial role within our organisation by effectively managing and controlling project quality throughout the project lifecycle. This position is responsible for providing quality control on site during the operations of fencing, harvesting and planting, and fencing of Spekboom. Quality control on fencing, which include fence repair as well as the erection of new fences. The Quality Controller must ensure all tasks are adhered to as per the individual task description, specifications, and protocols. Each Quality Controller will be allocated several contractors to oversee. We are seeking candidates with relevant experience in the field of quality control in the environmental, agricultural, or forestry sector with specific experience in managing teams and contractors.</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Roles and Responsibilities:</span> </p>\n<p> </p>\n<ul>\n<li>Assist to set out the tasks for contractors with clearly defined boundaries and time limits.</li>\n<li>Assist with overseeing contractors in-field to ensure all activities adhere to the specific task description, specifications.</li>\n<li>Ensure allocated contractors perform tasks as per the predetermined protocols.</li>\n<li>Timeously identify quality challenges in field and address with the contractor. Ensure identified quality challenges are corrected and issue non-conformance notices, as necessary.</li>\n<li>Report any challenges to the Extension Officer or Project Manager.</li>\n<li>Ensure all health, safety and environmental requirements are adhered to by contractors and conduct daily checks on teams (vehicle safety, PPE).</li>\n<li>Assist with risk assessments and quality assurance audits, including Occupational Health and Safety Act.</li>\n<li>Identifies and reports potential health, safety and security issues and addresses where possible.</li>\n<li>Transport staff as required. This could include transport to training or collecting equipment.</li>\n<li>Ensure all ecological protocols are adhered to on site.</li>\n<li>Assist Project Manager and Project Extension Officer with landowner relations and ensure contract teams comply to any specific requirements from the landowners.</li>\n<li>Maintain all reporting requirements daily and monthly basis as needed.</li>\n<li>Assist with data collection and capturing (social, environmental, or other) in the required format.</li>\n<li>Accurate and timeous completion of all relevant documentation (log sheets, claim forms, asset management).</li>\n<li>Compile reports as required.</li>\n<li>Assist with control and management of assets and equipment.</li>\n<li>Assist with fleet management of NatCarbon vehicles.</li>\n<li>Undertake data capture meticulously.</li>\n<li>Perform administrative duties as needed.</li>\n<li>Attend meetings and training as needed.</li>\n<li>Ensure all NatCarbon policies and procedures are implemented.</li>\n<li>Coordinates and supervises all activities including harvesting, planting, watering, and other associated project activities.</li>\n<li>Make recommendations to supervisor based on observation in the field.</li>\n</ul>\n<p> </p>\n<p> <span style=\"font-weight: bold\">General:</span> </p>\n<p> </p>\n<ul>\n<li>This role requires supervising teams in remote outdoor environments and involves physical activity.</li>\n</ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Embrace a culture of continuous learning by adapting to evolving job responsibilities, driven by NatCarbon Africa’s commitment to innovation, personal growth, and shifting operational priorities </li>\n<li>Some travel within the Eastern and Western Cape may be required, including to remote locations, with occasional weekend or holiday work to accommodate schedules. The functions and responsibilities detailed within this job description may be subject to modification at the employer’s discretion, based on evolving operational requirements, while remaining consistent with the parameters of the employee’s position </li>\n</ul>\n<p> </p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Skills:</span> </p>\n<p> </p>\n<ul>\n<li>Physical ability to perform quality controller duties in difficult mountainous terrain.</li>\n<li>Willingness to work irregular hours</li>\n<li>Excellent people skills and communication abilities.</li>\n<li>Strong analytical, strategic, and creative critical thinking skills</li>\n<li>Ability to thrive in a challenging environment managing multiple tasks and tight deadlines.</li>\n<li>Good project planning and organizing skills.</li>\n<li>Ability to function independently and within a team.</li>\n<li>Ability to work independently and as part of a team.</li>\n<li>Map reading skills.</li>\n</ul>\n<p> </p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Qualifications:</span> </p>\n<p> </p>\n<ul>\n<li>Tertiary degree or diploma in Conservation, Forestry, or Agriculture</li>\n</ul>\n<p> </p>\n<p> <span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Knowledge and Experience:</span> </p>\n<p> </p>\n<ul>\n<li>2-5 years of experience in quality control for environmental projects, with demonstrated proficiency in liaising with contractors to ensure project success is advantageous.</li>\n<li>A valid drivers license.</li>\n<li>Knowledge and experience in managing contractor teams.</li>\n<li>No criminal record</li>\n<li>A PDP with a code EC (Code 10) drivers and/or 4x4 driving experience - advantageous.</li>\n<li>Experience in GIS will be an advantage.</li>\n<li>The ideal candidate will leverage their hands-on experience to oversee contractor relationships and project deliverables.</li>\n<li>Knowledge and experience in collaborating with contractor teams.</li>\n<li>Proficiency in MS-Office.</li>\n<li>Knows how to operate farming equipment, machinery, and tools.</li>\n<li>Knowledge of working with a GPS or similar device.</li>\n<li>Knowledge of the vegetation of the Eastern Cape.</li>\n</ul>\n<p> </p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Working Conditions:</span></p>\n<p> </p>\n<ul>\n<li>Frequent travel within the Eastern and Western Cape anticipated, including to remote locations.
