    "description": "<h2>Responsibilities & Qualifications</h2>\n<p>The <strong>Linux (RHEL) Operating System Lead</strong> is responsible for the administration and optimization of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) systems supporting the NRC’s High Performance Computing System (HPCS), including the Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) cluster and cloud-based environments.</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p><strong>REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS</strong></p>\n<p> </p>\n<p><strong>Experience</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>8+ years of experience in <strong>Linux system administration (RHEL preferred)</strong></li>\n <li>Strong experience with:</li>\n <ul>\n  <li>Linux system performance tuning</li>\n  <li>Shell scripting (Bash, Python)</li>\n  <li>System monitoring tools</li>\n </ul>\n <li>Experience supporting <strong>HPC environments or compute clusters</strong></li>\n <li>Familiarity with:</li>\n <ul>\n  <li>Virtualization (VMware)</li>\n  <li>Cloud environments (AWS GovCloud, Azure)</li>\n </ul>\n <li>Knowledge of <strong>FISMA, NIST, and federal security standards</strong></li>\n <li>Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills</li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong>Education</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience)</li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong>Clearance</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li><p>Must be able to obtain and maintain an NRC security clearance (Public Trust or higher)</p></li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong>Preferred Qualifications</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>Red Hat certifications (<strong>RHCSA, RHCE</strong>)</li>\n <li>Experience with:</li>\n <ul>\n  <li>HPC schedulers (e.g., Slurm, PBS)</li>\n  <li>Parallel computing environments</li>\n </ul>\n <li>Experience with scientific/engineering tools (e.g., <strong>ANSYS, CFD applications</strong>)</li>\n <li>Automation tools (Ansible, Puppet)</li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong>Key Responsibilities</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>Administer and maintain <strong>RHEL-based systems</strong> in standalone and cloud environments</li>\n <li>Support <strong>HPC/CFD Linux cluster operations</strong>, including performance tuning and job scheduling</li>\n <li>Install, configure, and maintain scientific and engineering applications (e.g., ANSYS, Nek5000)</li>\n <li>Monitor system health, performance, and availability</li>\n <li>Troubleshoot system failures and restore services quickly</li>\n <li>Implement <strong>security patches, updates, and vulnerability remediation</strong></li>\n <li>Support <strong>continuous monitoring and FISMA compliance activities</strong></li>\n <li>Manage user accounts, permissions, and access controls</li>\n <li>Configure networking, storage, and cluster components</li>\n <li>Maintain system documentation, scripts, and operational procedures</li>\n <li>Automate administrative tasks where possible</li>\n <li>Support system upgrades, capacity planning, and scaling</li>\n <li>Collaborate with stakeholders and participate in technical planning discussions</li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong>Deliverables & Expectations </strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>Monthly status and asset reporting</li>\n <li>Participation in system health reviews and change control boards</li>\n <li>Continuous improvement and modernization of systems</li>\n <li>Maintain high availability and operational readiness of HPCS systems</li>\n</ul>\n<h2>Overview</h2>\n<p><strong>WORK ENVIRONMENT</strong></p>\n<p>The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of the job.
