Communications Project Lead
Location: 11738 Kingsway Avenue, Edmonton, AB or 1530 27 Avenue NE, Calgary, AB
Closing Date: Until Suitable Candidate Found
Position Status: Full Time (40 hrs per week), Permanent
The Otipemisiwak Métis Government is looking for a Communications Project Lead to coordinate, manage, and deliver communications projects across the Government. Reporting to the Communications Supervisor, this role serves as the key connection point between departments and the communications, digital, and creative teams, ensuring projects move smoothly from intake to completion. The Communications Project Lead will take initiative, follow through, and provide constructive and creative input that contributes to the development, execution, and maintenance of the Otipemisiwak Métis Government’s communications strategy and presence. The successful candidate must be highly organized, adaptable, and able to guide projects with confidence while juggling shifting priorities, tight timelines, and multiple stakeholders. This role is ideal for someone who is comfortable working in a fast-paced environment who can translate ideas into actionable steps, keep teams aligned, and ensure communications materials are completed on time and to a high standard.
Key Responsibilities
Lead project planning, coordination, and deadline management for communications requests across the Government.
Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned departments, supporting them through project intake, scoping, and prioritization.
Craft and execute communications strategies, plans, and tactics aligning with Otipemisiwak Métis Government goals.
Write, edit, and publish copy for multiple platforms, including but not limited to websites, social media, radio, video, and various print products.
Create presentations, reports, newsletters, and other communication collateral.
Develop project schedules, track progress, and follow up with team members to ensure deliverables remain on track.
Coordinate writers, designers, videographers, and digital team members to align messaging, content, and assets.
Support the implementation of standardized workflows, processes, and documentation.
Provide clear project briefs, consolidate feedback, and ensure final approvals are completed.
Support the evaluation of project outcomes and share recommendations for improvement.
Build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders while promoting realistic timelines and expectations.
Present a positive and professional image of the organization when interacting with employees, clients/customers, visitors, and other external stakeholders.
Other duties as required or assigned.
Skills and Competencies
Knowledge of marketing and communications principles and practices.
Competent in content management and communications systems (Survey Monkey, WordPress, etc.).
Knowledge of project management tools (ClickUp, Asana, Trello, etc.) is an asset.
Strong technical skills and knowledge of digital media.
Superior written and oral communication skills, including professional email etiquette.
Ability to produce professional documents, reports, and presentations with exceptional attention to detail.
Sound analytical thinking, planning, prioritization, and execution skills.
Exceptional organization and time management skills, with the ability to multitask and effectively manage and prioritize requests and deadlines.
Ability to assess options and implications, engage different perspectives, and create strategic solutions for communications challenges.
Flexible and adaptable to work in a diverse and fast-paced environment.
Competency to work with and convey messages to different audiences.
Ability to work with a very collaborative team and coordinate multidisciplinary teams.
Political sensitivity and ability to deal with confidential information.
Excellent interpersonal skills and a proven track record of building collaborative partnerships with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
Knowledge of Métis history, culture, and issues affecting Métis people. An in-depth understanding of the Otipemisiwak Métis Government and Métis culture is an asset.
Qualifications
Post-secondary education in communications, project management, public relations, or a related field.
Minimum two (2) years of experience in project coordination, communications, or a related role.
Experience managing creative or digital workflows considered an asset.
Other Requirements
Ability to work in office in Edmonton, Alberta.
Ability to work a regular schedule of Monday to Friday, 8:30 – 4:30, as well as occasional evenings and weekends.
Ability to travel between office locations and throughout Alberta, on occasion.
Reliable transportation and a valid Class 5 driver’s license.
