Description Definition Under general supervision, teaches one or more classes in the field to students in grades 6 through 12, assists in other school programs as assigned, and creates a flexible program and environment favorable to learning and personal growth in accordance with each student’s ability. Duties and Responsibilities Responsible for planning, organizing, and presenting instruction and providing instructional environments that help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their educational and social development. Teaches how technology systems interact with our world related to Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics concepts (robotics, infrastructures, etc.). Instructs students in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district. Develops instructional plans and organize a class time to provide a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and working time. Provides individual and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of pupils with varying intellectual abilities, and to accommodate a variety of instructional activities. Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior required to provide an orderly and productive studio environment. Instruct students in proper care and use of materials and equipment storage areas and control the use of materials and equipment to prevent loss or abuse. Evaluates each student’s performance and growth in knowledge and understanding, and prepare progress reports. Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and/or in self-selected professional growth activities. Communicates with parents and school counselors on student progress. Cooperates in school-wide supervision of students during out-of-classroom activities. Participates in faculty and/or District committees and the sponsorship of student activities. Other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to meet the needs of all learners. Ability to plan, coordinate, and continuously improve instruction. Ability to motivate students. Ability to maintain a clean and orderly environment. Ability to analyze situations, determine possible options, and make appropriate decisions based on the facts. Ability to develop and compile records and reports. Ability to maintain order and discipline in a classroom. Ability to operate common office machines. Ability to maintain basic files and records. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Requires the ability to speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information. Includes receiving instructions, assignments, and/or directions from superiors. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, teachers, parents, and administrators. Ability to communicate effectively in written and oral form. Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under stress and when confronted with emergency situations. Ability to exercise considerable tact and courtesy in frequent contact with the public. Requires the ability to record and deliver information, explain procedures, to follow oral and written instructions. Skilled in assessment and using its data for teaching and learning. Understanding the growth and development of assigned students. Experience with Professional Learning Communities (PLCs). Experience with Smartboard© and other forms of technology. Physical Requirements While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit and stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Must be able to perform light work exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or up 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Must possess the visual acuity to prepare data, work with record processes, and do extensive reading and research. Must be physically able to operate a variety of equipment including computers, copiers, etc. Minimum Education and Experience Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in Technology Education or Engineering from a regionally accredited college/university. Examples of related degrees include: o Architecture o Construction o Industrial Technology o Manufacturing o Industrial Arts Must hold North Carolina Teacher License (00820) or be eligible for licensure. Strong background in engineering, construction management, graphics design, network technology, or industrial design.
