Temporary Assistant Teacher - EHS - Children's Corner University Settlement is one of New York City's most dynamic social justice institutions, with an impressive legacy as the first settlement house in the nation. For over 135 years, University Settlement has been an anchor in the low-income and immigrant communities where we work, offering pioneering programs in early childhood care and education, youth development, eviction prevention, literacy, theater and visual arts, older adults services, and mental health. Each year, we engage over 40,000 New Yorkers through our network of 30 sites in Manhattan and Brooklyn. Our mission is to empower residents by building on their strengths through comprehensive, quality services that meet the current needs of the community; innovation that anticipates future needs; and advocacy to bring justice to the community as a whole. We work with New Yorkers of all ages. We infuse a commitment to civic engagement, equity, and communal action into each of our programs, which include early childhood education, mental health and wellness, benefits assistance and eviction prevention, adult literacy and education, healthy aging, community, and recreation centers, performing and visual arts, and youth development. Early Head Start offers comprehensive child development services, family support services and advocacy to low-income families with children ages birth to three and pregnant mothers. Following Head Start Performance Standards, the program will provide comprehensive early childhood care and education, including health, nutrition, and mental health services. This program is funded through Head Start federal grant and will operate in Lower East Side, Manhattan. The program aims at providing a nurturing and stimulating environment that will prepare children to enter school with the fundamental skills to succeed. Responsibilities: Under the guidance of the Teacher, plan and complete assignments in support of daily classroom program and activities. Conduct home visits at least twice per year for each family Provide primary care to classroom children Maintain an organized, safe and sanitary classroom for children Assist with classroom set up and clean up on a daily basis Complete and document daily, weekly and monthly classroom maintenance responsibilities Assist in the development and implementation of the curriculum Develop consistent, stable and supportive relationships with families and children Be part of a team in assessing family needs and child development status, and in creating classroom goals Maintain proper documentations of classroom sessions Maintain written observation of the children’s experience in the classroom Assist in the recruitment of families for the program Attend and participate in program wide activities that include staff and parent meetings, events, trainings and professional development sessions as required Maintain up-to-date regulation required trainings Other duties as requested by supervisor to fulfill job responsibilities Qualifications: High School Diploma or HSE required, Bachelor’s degree preferred Teacher Assistant Certification or CDA (Must be willing to obtain CDA or Teacher Assistant Certificate within 2 years of hire date) Experience working with children Bilingual English / Spanish or Chinese preferred Work Schedule: Temporary, Full time, Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:00pm, 35 hours per week We are committed to building a diverse and inclusive community. The program aims at providing a nurturing and stimulating environment that will prepare children to enter school with the fundamental skills to succeed.&nbsp;\\r\\n\\r\\n&nbsp;\\r\\n\\r\\nResponsibilities:\\r\\n\\r\\n\\r\\n\\tUnder the guidance of the Teacher, plan and complete assignments in support of daily classroom program and activities.\\r\\n\\tConduct home visits at least twice per year for each family\\r\\n\\tProvide primary care to classroom children\\r\\n\\tMaintain an organized, safe and sanitary classroom for children\\r\\n\\tAssist with classroom set up and clean up on a daily basis\\r\\n\\tComplete and document daily, weekly and monthly classroom maintenance responsibilities\\r\\n\\tAssist in the development and implementation of the curriculum\\r\\n\\tDevelop consistent, stable and supportive relationships with families and children\\r\\n\\tBe part of a team in assessing family needs and child development status, and in creating classroom goals\\r\\n\\tMaintain proper documentations of classroom sessions\\r\\n\\tMaintain written observation of the children&rsquo;s experience in the classroom\\r\\n\\tAssist in the recruitment of families for the program\\r\\n\\tAttend and participate in program wide activities that include staff and parent meetings, events, trainings and professional development sessions as required\\r\\n\\tMaintain up-to-date regulation required trainings\\r\\n\\tOther duties as requested by supervisor to fulfill job responsibilities\\r\\n\\r\\n\\r\\n&nbsp;\\r\\n\\r\\nQualifications:\\r\\n\\r\\n\\r\\n\\tHigh School Diploma or HSE required, Bachelor&rsquo;s degree preferred\\r\\n\\tTeacher Assistant Certification or CDA (Must be willing to obtain CDA or Teacher Assistant\\r\\n\\tCertificate within 2 years of hire date)\\r\\n\\tExperience working with children\\r\\n\\tBilingual English / Spanish or Chinese preferred\\r\\n\\r\\n\\r\\n&nbsp;\\r\\n\\r\\nWork Schedule: Temporary, Full time, Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:00pm, 35 hours per week\\r\\n\\r\\n&nbsp;\\r\\n\\r\\nWe are committed to building a diverse and inclusive community.
