Description Job Summary Join our team in Chesapeake, VA—just a short drive from the coast—where you can enjoy the unique balance of a rewarding career and coastal living. This role offers the opportunity to lead a dynamic operation while benefiting from the lifestyle perks of living near the beach. The Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing a high-volume, fast-paced transportation operation, including the leadership of 30–40 employees across both frontline and management levels. This position requires a hands-on leader who thrives in an early-morning environment, with flexible start times ranging from 3:30 AM to 8:00 AM, based on operational needs. This site manages approximately 60 routes and supports 7 convenience site centers in North Carolina, requiring strong organizational and multi-site management capabilities. The Operations Manager will ensure efficient daily execution, safety compliance, service excellence, and continuous improvement across all functions. What You'll be Doing Manages the day-to-day operations of the District, and provides daily support to Route Managers in ensuring quality performance. Monitors operating metrics while diagnosing and improving processes, procedures, and performance. Executes necessary precautions to ensure safety and compliance with Company, OSHA, and other standards and regulations. Ensures thorough root cause investigations for all injuries and incidents, following-up with consistent discipline and retraining. Oversees personnel needs of the department including selecting, coaching, disciplining, and training employees and evaluating employee performance. Provides input into termination, compensation, and promotion decisions. Formulates both short-term and long-term goals and action plans in conjunction with the District Manager or Senior District Manager. Participates in regular P&L reviews to ensure that budgets are met; develops and implements programs for optimal equipment utilization, equipment maintenance, and labor and material costs. Interacts with local city, municipal, and county agencies to ensure customer satisfaction, improve efficiency, renew contracts and negotiate new contracts; establishes WM as a good corporate citizen and valued resource. Ensures District compliance with WM Way processes and continues to work toward and/or maintain Gold Standards. Works with functional groups to resolve employee relations and labor relations issues. What does it take to be a District Operations Manager with WM? A. Required Qualifications Associate's Degree (accredited), or in lieu of degree High School Diploma or GED (accredited) Valid Driver's License B. Preferred Qualifications 2 years of relevant work experience.
