This role demands a high level of precision and attention to detail, ensuring that all published content meets our rigorous standards for accuracy, consistency, and engagement. The successful candidate will work closely with our managing editor, writers, and reporters to refine articles, ensuring they resonate with our community and uphold our reputation for journalistic excellence.<br><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Position Type:</span> Full-time staff position or contract opportunity available<br><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Reports To:</span> Managing Editor<br><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Location:</span> Strong preference for candidates located in South Florida<br><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 22px\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Key Responsibilities:</span></span></p>\n<ul>\n<li>Review and edit copy for clarity, grammar, accuracy, and style, adhering to The Miami Times and Biscayne Times editorial guidelines</li>\n<li>Fact-check original staff content for accuracy, ensuring all information is credible and well-supported</li>\n<li>Collaborate with production designers to create engaging layouts that adhere to visual style guides and industry best practices</li>\n<li>Work closely with writers to enhance their stories for maximum impact and reader engagement</li>\n<li>Undertake periodic writing assignments and craft staff news reports to support both publications' news coverage efforts</li>\n<li>Manage multiple editing tasks under tight deadlines without compromising quality</li>\n<li>Assist in developing and maintaining the editorial calendar, coordinating with different departments to ensure smooth content flow</li>\n<li>Create compelling headlines and enhance storytelling techniques</li>\n<li>Uphold the newspapers' commitment to issues that matter to our communities, adding depth and perspective to local and national news</li>\n<li>Provide final approval on print and digital articles before publication, ensuring all material is error-free<br><br></li>\n</ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 22px\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Required Qualifications:</span></span></p>\n<ul>\n<li>Bachelor's degree in Journalism, English, Communications, or related field</li>\n<li>Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in editing or journalism (exceptional candidates with less experience will be considered)</li>\n<li>Strong command of the English language and expert knowledge of AP style</li>\n<li>Demonstrated ability to work efficiently under pressure and meet tight deadlines</li>\n<li>Excellent communication and collaboration skills</li>\n<li>Keen attention to detail with a passion for accuracy and truth in reporting</li>\n<li>Familiarity with digital publishing and content management systems<br><br></li>\n</ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 22px\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Preferred Qualifications:</span></span></p>\n<ul>\n<li>Previous newsroom environment experience</li>\n<li>Understanding of South Florida's diverse communities and ability to effectively serve our readership through culturally relevant and sensitive reporting</li>\n<li>Experience with layout and design software<br><br></li>\n</ul>\n<p>This position offers the opportunity to play a pivotal role in shaping the narrative of two of South Florida's most respected publications.
