We Pursue a Higher Standard
We are a U.S.-based, well-diversified, growing precious metals producer with seven wholly-owned operations: the New Afton gold-copper mine in British Columbia, Canada, the Rainy River gold-silver mine in Ontario, Canada, the Las Chispas silver-gold mine in Sonora, Mexico, the Palmarejo gold-silver mine in Chihuahua, Mexico, the Rochester silver-gold mine in Nevada, the Kensington gold mine in Alaska and the Wharf gold mine in South Dakota. In addition, the Company wholly-owns the Silvertip polymetallic critical minerals exploration project in British Columbia, Canada.
Coeur Alaska’s Kensington mine comprises an underground, hard-rock gold mine, associated milling facilities and a campsite in the historic Berners Bay Mining District, 45 miles north-northwest of Juneau. The mine is accessed via company transportation, including bus rides and a boat ride through Lynn Canal.
Coeur Alaska is an integral part of the local community and actively supports education and workforce development programs, environmental stewardship efforts, arts and culture, and local nonprofit agencies through monetary investments, in-kind support, and employee volunteerism.
Approximately 400 miners, mechanics, engineers, operators, geologists, environmental technicians, exploration, and business leaders operate the Kensington mine. About the Job:
Reporting to the Metallurgical Superintendent, the Metallurgist is responsible for the safe, efficient and environmentally sound operation of the metallurgical lab, analysis and reporting. They will support assay, processing and water treatment departments by providing timely and accurate testing and determinations. The Metallurgist is ultimately responsible for quality and efficiency of processes. They will be a direct part of achieving processing goals in safe and environmentally responsible manner.
The schedule for this position is 14 days on at the mine site located about 45-miles north of Juneau, accessible only through company transportation, and 14 days off.
Responsibilities:
Stop work for safety concerns and abide by safety best practices, policies, and procedures. Maintain accurate analytical records and ensure timely, reliable reporting of metallurgical data and results. Collect, analyze, reconcile, and support QA/QC of metallurgical accounting, including development of mass balances to model and measure process performance. Conduct metallurgical test work and plant trials to optimize recovery, throughput, and overall process efficiency, using statistical methods where appropriate. Develop and execute test programs to evaluate new reagents, technologies, and procedures, supporting continuous improvement initiatives. Evaluate equipment and process performance using technical specifications, operational data, and field observations; recommend and help implement improvements. Prepare and analyze samples for assay and support development or refinement of analytical and metallurgical testing procedures. Provide technical support to operations by identifying, troubleshooting, and resolving daily process performance issues. Communicate technical concepts, results, and recommendations clearly through both formal reporting and practical, non-technical explanations for cross-functional teams. Support regulatory compliance activities, including documentation and tracking for audits and permits. Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., Operations, Mine, Geology) to support orebody development, improve metallurgical performance, manage consumables, and generate business improvement opportunities; senior-level roles may also mentor junior staff. Other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications & Skills:
Ability to work safely and promote safe behavior in others. High school diploma or equivalent. Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and a team-oriented mindset – being respectful, reliable, and easy to work with is just as important as technical skills. Bachelor’s degree in chemical or metallurgical engineering or relevant experience in metallurgical extraction field. Strong understanding of the principles of sampling theory and has a strong understanding of analytical methods required for the function of process control. Strong understanding of statistical methods and their applications. Knowledge of analytical procedures and equipment, troubleshooting equipment, and problem-solving ability. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written. Experience with Microsoft suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Sets high standards for self and others, builds trust, and takes accountability. Ability to work a 14 day on 14 day off, camp-based rotation. Preference given to Alaska residents. Preferred Qualifications & Skills:
Practical experience in a process plant and analytical/metallurgical laboratory environment – required for levels II, III, and Senior. Up to date with industry technologies. Preference given to Alaska residents. Notice to Applicants:
