SHERIFF'S OFFICE DISPATCHER Ozaukee County Sheriff’s Office Full-Time (40 hours per week) Starting Rate of Pay 2025:  $25.91 - $33.10 based on experience with an excellent benefit package and WI Retirement System LATERAL TRANSFERS ACCEPTED POSITION SUMMARY: The Ozaukee County Sheriff’s Office, an equal opportunity employer, is accepting applications for Dispatcher. A Dispatcher’s primary responsibility is to receive and transmit reliable information to facilitate communications for law enforcement, fire and EMS personnel 24/7 during emergency and non-emergency operations; and make inquiry with local, State and Federal data resources, record a variety of data and other duties as assigned. Dispatchers are often the first point of contact for people in desperate need of help. Candidates need to work well under stress, must remain calm and keep their wits about them, and make sense of what the caller is dealing with so they can provide the exact emergency services needed. JOB DESCRIPTION Communicates with police/fire/EMS staff via radio. Communicates with the public via phone in both emergency and non-emergency capacity. Assesses information and routes as needed. Exposed to hostile, volatile situations via the telephone. First point of contact for people in need of assistance. Multi-tasks phone calls and radio transmissions simultaneously in order to send the appropriate assistance to the caller in an appropriate amount of time. Processes requests for an ambulance while following EMD protocols. On-going reviews and trainings in EMD protocols, rules, and axioms. Assists in giving life-saving directions to civilians over the phone. Performs inquires with local, state, and federal data bases. Enters, updates, and cancesl files regarding wanted persons, missing persons, stolen property, and restraining orders, Processes teletype messages and respond or route accordingly. Provides support services to all divisions within the Sheriff’s Office as needed to include processing requests for criminal history records, name/address/call history, researching suspect information. Enters pertinent information provided by the caller and officer into the Records Management System. Education and/or Experience Requirements : General high school diploma or GED. Previous experience in dispatching, law enforcement, fire, or EMS operations preferred but not required. Licenses, Certifications, and Other Requirements: Valid driver’s license Time System Advanced Certification Emergency Medical Dispatch Certification CPR Incident Command System IPAWS Certification Knowledge of radio-telephone operations and procedures. Procedures used in operating Computer Aided Dispatch and 9-1-1 systems. Ability to follow policies and procedures of receiving and processing emergency calls. Ability to use computer systems/software currently used in the Dispatch Department. Knowledge of law enforcement codes, practices and methods. Knowledge of City, state and federal laws as they apply to public safety dispatching. Knowledge of call screening techniques and phone etiquette. Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written forms. Ability to deal with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, ethnic and cultural backgrounds, in person and over the telephone. Physical Requirements   Frequent periods of sitting while using a computer. Infrequent periods of lifting up to 25 pounds. Work Environment   Work is performed indoors in an office environment.
