Description This announcement is specific to the Teen Art Camp. If interested in other camp program areas, you must apply directly to those positions. IMPORTANT NOTICE: Arlington County requires all applicants to thoroughly complete each section of the application, including prior job responsibilities, duties, and supplemental questions. The Department of Park & Recreation (DPR) Teen Art Camp is seeking Ceramics, Jewelry & Woodworking Instructors II/III for temporary summer employment to support camp programs by planning and leading a variety of art experiences for teens ages 12-16. Staff must commit to working from June 29 - August 7 (core camp dates). Training will begin in mid to late May through June, which includes online courses with virtual and in-person trainings during weekday evenings and a few Saturdays. Several positions are available, and hours vary. Responsibilities Applications are being accepted for the following positions: INSTRUCTOR II: $25.43/ Hourly Provides specialized instruction in one or more field, including Ceramics, Jewelry or Woodworking for students ages 12-16. Provides technical support and general maintenance in the studio. Performs supervisory and administrative duties, including assisting the director of a summer program & developing a curriculum and lesson plans. INSTRUCTOR III: $29.39/ Hourly Provides specialized instruction in one or more field, including ceramics, jewelry or woodworking for students ages 12-16. Provides technical support and general maintenance in the studio. Performs supervisory and administrative duties, including directing a summer program & developing a curriculum and lesson plans. Qualifications Minimums: INSTRUCTOR II: High school, GED or equivalent; 800 hours of technical art experience (includes any work, volunteer, or formal art participation); plus 50 hours as an instructor. INSTRUCTOR III: High school diploma, GED or equivalent; 1,200 hours of technical art experience (includes any work, volunteer, or formal art participation); plus 50 hours as an instructor. Substitution: Additional education in a related field may be substituted for the experience requirement, with each year of post-high school education substituting for 400 hours of technical experience. However, additional education may not substitute the instructing hours. Licenses/Certifications: First Aid/CPR/AED Certification, or the ability to obtain one within 60 days of hire. Successful candidates will have good character and integrity, effective communication skills, and reliable transportation, including the ability to complete tasks, take initiative, and work successfully in a team environment. Desirables: Preference may be given to candidates with experience in one or more of the following: Working in Summer Camp programs or Arlington Camps; Teaching art and working with teens; Experience/willingness to work with individuals with disabilities. For Ceramics Instructors: Experience teaching wheel throwing & hand building, as well as kiln management, and glaze application experience. For Jewelry Instructors: Experience teaching jewelry studio safety and fundamental skills, use of jewelry tools and equipment such as soldering, metal forming, stone setting, enameling, investing and casting. Must be comfortable with using smith torches, a flexshaft, and traditional hand tools. For Woodworking Instructors: Experience teaching woodshop safety and fundamental skills, use of woodshop machinery & tools such as table saw, jointer, planer, lathe, radial arm and chop saws, router, bandsaw, etc. Special Requirements If selected, all summer staff may be required to: Agree to a criminal background check (if 18 years of age or over). Provide references, which will be requested at time of interview. Attend all required trainings, wear a uniform, and ability to lift up to 25 lbs. Stand and walk for a prolonged periods of time during the work shift. Possess a driver's license and complete a successful driving license record check (if 18 years of age or over). Provide personal care as needed to campers (training provided). Arlington County requires that all employees have a bank account to accept direct payroll deposits. Be CPR and First Aid Certified as of the first day of camp for designated positions. Additional Information Work Hours: May vary between 20-30 hours per week, 5-8 hours a day between the hours of 8am-5pm. The official titles of these positions are Recreation Instructor II and Recreation Instructor III. Employee Discount: Summer camp employees can receive a 20% discount on camp fees for their children! Must be comfortable with using smith torches, a flexshaft, and traditional hand tools.</li><li>For Woodworking Instructors: Experience teaching woodshop safety and fundamental skills, use of woodshop machinery &amp; tools such as table saw, jointer, planer, lathe, radial arm and chop saws, router, bandsaw, etc.</li></ul><p><strong>Special Requirements</strong></p><p>If selected, all summer staff may be required to:</p><ul><li>Agree to a criminal background check (if 18 years of age or over).</li><li>Provide references, which will be requested at time of interview.&nbsp;</li><li>Attend all required trainings, wear a uniform, and ability to lift up to 25 lbs.&nbsp;</li><li>Stand and walk for a prolonged periods of time during the work shift.</li><li>Possess a driver's license and complete a successful driving license record check (if 18 years of age or over).</li><li>Provide personal care as needed to campers (training provided).</li><li>Arlington County requires that all employees have a bank account to accept direct payroll deposits. &nbsp;</li><li>Be CPR and First Aid Certified as of the first day of camp for designated positions.</li></ul><p><strong>Additional Information</strong></p><p><strong>Work Hours: </strong>May vary between 20-30 hours per week, 5-8 hours a day between the hours of 8am-5pm.</p><p>The official titles of these positions are Recreation Instructor II and Recreation Instructor III.</p><p><strong>Employee Discount:</strong> Summer camp employees can receive a 20% discount on camp fees for their children!
