Develop a creative scenic and props design that supports the production's needs, remains within the designated budget, and prioritizes the safety of student performers.
Actively mentor student interns or volunteers. Demonstrate the design process and involve students in the construction and painting process where appropriate.
Lead or supervise the building, painting, and finishing of the set and props, teaching students basic scenic painting techniques (e.g., scumbling, ragging, stenciling).
Responsibly manage the education scenic budget, emphasizing the reuse of stock materials as available and creative, low-cost solutions.
Attend all production meetings and rehearsals. Maintain a close working relationship with the Director and fellow designers to ensure a unified production aesthetic.
Ensure all set pieces are structurally sound and safe for student use. Maintain a clean and organized workspace during the build and install.
