Description The Enterprise Architect 2 (Data) is a principal‑level architect responsible for defining, advancing, and governing the Church’s enterprise data architecture strategy. This role establishes organization‑wide architectural standards, patterns, and governance across data domains such as data cataloging, data orchestration, data warehousing, enterprise data integration, and interoperability, ensuring they are effective, followed, and deliver measurable value. Working across multiple portfolios, the architect partners with senior enterprise architects, portfolio architects, engineering leaders, and business stakeholders to shape the future‑state enterprise data ecosystem. This includes evaluating and introducing capabilities such as Master Data Management (MDM), integration platforms (iPaaS), and enterprise data platforms to ensure data is discoverable, trusted, governed, and effectively leveraged to support mission outcomes and customer expectations. The role leads strategy across the Data domain such as entity correlation and data interoperability, enabling consistent, high‑quality data flows across systems and portfolios. The Enterprise Architect 2 (Data) also plays a key role in guiding organizational responses to emerging data technologies and disruptive trends, ensuring technical decisions align with Church standards, architectural integrity, and long‑term enterprise strategy. This role is primarily focused on enterprise data architecture and data platform strategy. This individual works with divine guidance to provide or support technology that furthers the mission of the Church and reflects the eternal impact of the gospel. Responsibilities · Define and maintain the enterprise data architecture strategy, including data platforms, integration patterns, and governance models. · Establish standards for data cataloging, metadata management, and data lineage. · Lead architecture for data orchestration and data pipeline design across batch and real-time systems. · Define and guide enterprise data warehousing/lakehouse strategies. · Evaluate and recommend Data capabilities, including build vs. buy decisions. · Lead entity resolution and correlation strategies across disparate systems. · Partner with business and product teams to define authoritative data sources and domain ownership. · Establish patterns for data quality, stewardship, and governance. · Guide selection and implementation of data integration technologies. · Ensure interoperability and consistency of data across portfolios. · Mentor and train Portfolio Architects. · Provide architectural leadership, guidance, and support for the broader architecture community. · Mentor and coach technical resources across the organization. · Understand technology trends and how emerging technologies can be used to meet business needs. · Understand data and analytics technology trends, including data platforms, integration patterns, and governance capabilities. · Prepare and deliver comprehensive communications to convey architectural direction. · Establish and document the technical architecture future state that will guide technology decisions for the organization. · Assist with high-level migration plans to address gaps between the current and future technology state. · Lead analysis of current technology environment to identify deficiencies and recommend improvements. · Fulfill temporary assignments to provide leadership on software development teams for large projects with broad impact to the organization. · Develop strong relationships with and act as a trusted advisor to Portfolio Directors, portfolio architects, Solution Managers and Division Directors. · Manage and participate in the process for evaluating architectural fit and assessing risk for third-party technology solutions. · Document the technology strategy with reference guides, standards, architecture principles, technology radar, and best practices. · Participate on cross-portfolio committees to define direction and create standards for the organization. · Champion the adoption of new technologies, participate in POC and pilots project, as needed. · Consult with project teams and implementation teams on design and creation of solution architectures. · Participate in the review of major standards proposals and resolve differences between other architect. · Act as a consultant for senior leaders on strategic technical vision, risk management, compliance, governance, and roadmaps. · Be familiar with and assist with compliance with corporate policies, standards, relevant internation standards and regulatory requirements and ensure all others are doing the same. Qualifications Practical, relevant experience and/or applicable skills in emerging technologies will be given strong consideration and may substitute for years of formal education. Skills testing and project experience may be used for evaluation purposes. • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent professional experience • Ten years of industry-recognized, progressive, and relevant experience • A record of success in participating in the definition of the architecture of enterprise-class systems • Able to develop a shared vision and collaborate with dedication, enthusiasm, and passion to help the organization fulfill that vision • Proficient and persuasive verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate new ideas and concepts to technical and non-technical audiences • Strong technical judgment to make good decisions despite uncertainty • Able to break down complex, cross-solution problems and identify simple solutions that fit with the organization’s technical standards • Experience bridging business and technical requirements • Knowledge of Enterprise Architecture concepts, methodologies, techniques and frameworks • Deep experience in enterprise data architecture, including data warehousing, data lakes/lakehouse, and data integration • Experience with data catalog and metadata management tools • Experience designing data pipelines and orchestration frameworks • Strong understanding of data governance, data quality, and stewardship models • Experience with entity resolution / master data concepts • Experience evaluating or implementing MDM and/or iPaaS solutions • Capable of internalizing the organization’s technical standards • Demonstrated experience evaluating vendors, their products and identifying critical gaps in their offerings • Reliable and confident leader that seeks to understand and empathize with peers and customers • Ability to successfully influence and mentor as opposed to directing and mandating • Strong understanding of Agile Software Development methodologies and principles • Able to lead cross-functional and interdepartmental product or project teams, define work processes, and lead a team of highly educated and skilled engineers and managers • Expert in Cloud Based Platforms and services • Able to transition between tactical and strategy work as needed • Experience with cloud security and compliance best practices • Broad experience with a variety of technologies and systems, and deep experience in at least two of the following areas: cloud computing, DevOps, artificial intelligence, analytics, security, low-code platforms, networking, application development, mobile development, database management, data integration, content publishing, IoT • Deep experience in data architecture and at least one additional domain such as cloud computing, analytics, or application development • Strong understanding of resiliency, disaster recovery, and business continuity principles • Able to make architectural choices based on solid principles and practical experience without unsubstantiated bias • Able to set technical architectural direction without supervision • Leader of Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery principles • Expert-level knowledge of applicable solution architecture, and development systems to perform the responsibilities of the role • This job operates in a professional office environment • To successfully perform the essential functions of the job there may be physical requirements which need to be met such as sitting for long periods of time and using computer monitors/equipment Company Church employees find joy and satisfaction in using their unique talents and abilities to further the Lord’s work.
