Description Job Summary Audiovisual (AV) technicians set up and run the sound and video equipment used to conduct live events such as meetings, sports games, business conventions, and concerts. They mix soundboards, play video recordings, enhance lighting, and coordinate graphics. Cool-headed, self-motivated individuals who think fast on their feet and enjoy technical support will thrive in this role. In larger companies, AV technicians work under the supervision of an audiovisual manager. AV technicians must be able to work days, nights, and weekends because they support events that take place during these times. AV technicians work in a variety of live event venues and are comfortable using the following equipment in a typical workday: Audio and video equipment (cable boxes, AV receivers, media players, microphones, powered speakers, mixers) IP network equipment (Ethernet and AVB cables) Computer systems (macOS and PC operating systems) Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Service electronic systems Able to complete repairs and/or calibrate Able to read diagrams, schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals for repair and diagnostic information Able to inspect and install electronic systems Evaluate performance of equipment and equipment versus recommended purchase specifications Able to review requests for new equipment Able to provide assistance for facility users Able to operate television equipment, video/audio equipment, and other equipment in video and television production facilities Required Qualifications High school diploma or GED. An associate’s degree in audiovisual technology or a related field, such as digital media. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s degree Licensing certificates like the Certified Technology Specialist (CTS). Physical Demands Be able to lift 50 to 70 pounds individually, Furthermore, standing, walking, climbing ladders, and navigating tight spaces is a common requirement for AV technicians Compensation & Benefits Job Family – Technical Assistant Market Range – 4 ( Salary Schedules ) For information on benefits please visit www.etsu.edu/human-resources/benefits/.
