Description
The Azrieli Foundation is one of Canada’s largest philanthropic foundations, supporting initiatives in education, science & healthcare, research and the arts. Through strategic grants and collaborative initiatives, we strive to foster innovation, empowerment and drive positive change within these critical sectors in Canada and Israel.
The Azrieli Foundation is seeking a Grants Manager to join the team on a one-year contract covering a maternity leave.
Reporting to the VP, Grants, the Grants Manager is responsible for the end-to-end management of a portfolio of grants outside the Foundation’s core Areas of Impact, with a significant portion focused on Jewish Education and Jewish Community.
This role combines strategic grant development with hands-on operational execution across the full grant lifecycle, including intake, evaluation, documentation, payments, reporting, and stakeholder engagement.
Responsibilities:
Strategic & Portfolio Management
Maintains and expands knowledge of relevant fields, including trends, research, policy developments, and emerging issues to inform grant-making strategies
Works with Senior Management to develop and implement strategies and policies for Board consideration
When directed, identifies and develops funding and partnership opportunities aligned with the Foundation’s mission and regulatory requirements
Contributes to the design, development, and refinement of new initiatives and funding programs
Develops and tracks key performance indicators to assess grant impact and inform future decision-making
Grant Lifecycle Management
Manages grants from intake through evaluation, approval, payment, and reporting, through a relational lens with the grantee organization.
Conducts preliminary review and assessment of grant applications, including alignment with Foundation priorities and completeness of submissions
Prepares documentation for internal review and Board consideration, including summaries, analysis, and recommendations
Monitors funded grants to ensure compliance with agreements, timelines, and deliverables
Evaluates outcomes and impact of funded initiatives to support strategic decisions
Supports overall grants operations, including process improvements and documentation
Provides grant-related operational support to Senior Management as required
Document & Content Creation
Drafts and reviews grant-related materials, including proposals, summaries, agreements, and internal briefing documents
Prepares Board materials and supporting documentation for grant recommendations
Contributes to the development and refinement of templates, guidelines, and internal resources
Stakeholder Communication & Relationship Management
Serves as a primary point of contact for funded organizations and applicants
Manages ongoing communication with grantees, including follow-ups, reporting requirements, and issue resolution
Coordinates internal communication to ensure alignment across teams on grant decisions and processes
Represents the Foundation externally, including at conferences and sector events
Data Management & Systems
Maintains accurate and up-to-date grant records within the Foundation’s grants management system (Fluxx)
Ensures data integrity across grant records, including status updates, reporting milestones, and financial tracking
Supports reporting and data analysis to inform internal and external stakeholders
Research & Analysis
Conducts research to support due diligence, including organizational assessments and sector analysis
Evaluates grant proposals using qualitative and quantitative frameworks
Expertise in budget preparation, budget analysis and review
Synthesizes findings into clear recommendations for internal stakeholders and the Board
Event & Initiative Coordination
Supports the planning and coordination of meetings, site visits, and events related to funded initiatives
Assists with logistics and stakeholder engagement for grant-related activities
Financial Administration & Payments
Coordinates grant payment processes, including verification of deliverables and compliance with funding conditions
Works with internal teams to ensure accurate and timely disbursement of funds
Tracks grant budgets and payment schedules
Qualifications and Experience
Minimum three (3) years of experience in a similar role within a nonprofit or philanthropic organization
Experience working with Jewish life or the Jewish community is an asset
Strong relationship management and stakeholder engagement skills
Demonstrated project management and organizational capability
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities and work across stakeholders with differing perspectives
Detail-oriented with strong execution and follow-through
Comfortable working in a dynamic, evolving environment
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience with grants management systems (e.g., Fluxx) or similar platforms
Highly organized, adaptable, and able to meet tight timelines
French language skills are an asset
