Description
About Us:
Callen-Lorde is the global leader in LGBTQ+ healthcare. Since the days of Stonewall, we have been transforming lives in LGBTQ+ communities through excellent comprehensive care, provided free of judgment and regardless of ability to pay. In addition, we are continuously pioneering research, advocacy and education to drive positive change around the world, because we believe healthcare is a human right.
Our Mission:
Callen-Lorde Community Health Center provides sensitive, quality health care and related services targeted to New York’s lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender communities — in all their diversity — regardless of ability to pay. To further this mission, Callen-Lorde promotes health education and wellness, and advocates for LGBTQ+ health issues.
About the Role:
The Manager of Clinical Operations Nursing is a frontline nursing leader responsible for overseeing the daily clinical operations, staffing execution, and performance management of nursing services. This role translates nursing strategy into reliable, high-quality daily practice—ensuring safe staffing, efficient patient flow, strong clinical standards, and a culture of accountability.
Reporting to Nursing Leadership, the Nurse Manager provides hands-on operational leadership on the clinical floors and partners closely with Nursing Supervisors to support staff performance, workflow efficiency, training, documentation quality, and issue resolution. While the Director of Nursing sets strategic direction, this role ensures operational follow-through and real-time problem-solving.
Key Responsibilities:
As a Manager of Clinical Operations Nursing, your responsibilities will include:
Clinical Operations & Staffing
Provide daily oversight of nursing services to ensure safe staffing, smooth patient flow, and adherence to clinical workflows
Collaborate with Nursing Supervisors on scheduling execution, addressing call-outs and coverage gaps in real time
Serve as an on-site operational resource to troubleshoot clinical, staffing, and patient-care concerns
Leadership & Performance Management
Directly supervise designated nursing staff and oversee Nursing Supervisors’ management of clinical teams
Complete 90-day evaluations for new staff and ensure timely completion of ongoing performance reviews
Address performance concerns promptly in partnership with HR and Nursing Leadership
Foster a culture of professionalism, accountability, and psychological safety
Training & Quality Oversight
Coordinate onboarding, training, and competency validation for LPNs, MAs, and other nursing staff
Ensure annual competencies, chart reviews, and peer reviews are completed accurately and on schedule
Partner with Quality Management to implement and monitor quality improvement initiatives
Support audits, regulatory reviews, and compliance with DOH and other regulatory standards
Patient Care & Clinical Presence
Serve as escalation point for patient concerns related to nursing services
Provide coaching on clinical standards, documentation quality, and patient-centered care
Maintain two clinical sessions per week to remain connected to frontline workflows (may include rooming, phlebotomy, point-of-care testing, and triage)
Additional Leadership Responsibilities
Participate in operational initiatives related to access, staffing, and care delivery
Prepare reports related to nursing operations and quality metrics
Provide interdepartmental support during Administrator-on-Duty rotations
Serve as Site Infection Control Lead and coordinate annual Flu Clinics and employee vaccinations
Work Schedule:
This is a full-time.
Benefits:
Salary will be based on experience and will be accompanied by a comprehensive benefits package including an exceptional low cost medical plan option for you, your spouse/domestic partner and/or your family, dental insurance, vision insurance, no cost life insurance, short- and long-term disability insurance, Flexible Spending Account, Tuition Assistance, commuter benefits, a generous paid time off plan, and a 403B retirement savings plan.
Qualifications
Qualifications ( Education, Certifications, Experience, Skills, Language)
Current New York State Registered Nurse (RN) license
Minimum 3 years of nursing leadership or supervisory experience
Minimum 2 years of experience in an outpatient or ambulatory clinical setting
Demonstrated experience managing staff performance, workflows, and clinical operations

Current BCLS certification
Desired Characteristics
Demonstrate effective communication and interpersonal skills to serve individuals from varied backgrounds, ensuring care is delivered in a manner that aligns with cultural and linguistic appropriateness requirements and organizational protocols.
