A coach serves with a major responsibility for customer service, instruction, program development, class/activity planning, and behavior management of participants. Adheres to Newport Sea Base health and safety standards. You must be at least 18 years old, be certified in CPR and First Aid, and attain your CA Boater's Card upon being hired. Needs to be enthusiastic, patient, creative, and have a sense of humor and self-control. Must be able to safely swim and participate in water-based activities, with or without reasonable accommodation. Must be comfortable communicating with children, teens, and parents. Directly reports to the Rowing Director.</span></p>\n<p><br><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Inter, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; font-weight: bold\">*<em>For Rowing Coaches:</em> US Rowing Coaching Level 1 certification, American Red Cross Lifeguard or BSA Lifeguard certifications recommended.</span><br><br></p>\n<p><br><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Inter, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; font-weight: bold\">Responsibilities/Duties</span><br></p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Inter, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt\">Prepare and deliver lesson plans/activities to athletes in a well-planned, fun and engaging manner.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Inter, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt\">Develop and write program curriculum for new and existing classes.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Inter, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt\">Provide active supervision ensuring a safe environment for all participants.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Inter, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt\">Take roll and track attendance and turn rosters into supervisors regularly.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Inter, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt\">Assist Head Coaches/Rowing Director in monitoring inventory of program equipment.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Inter, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt\">Help with maintenance and rigging of shells, oars, and other program equipment.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Inter, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt\">Ensure proper set-up, usage, and clean-up of the facility, equipment, and docks.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Inter, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt\">Report program/equipment concerns to supervisor immediately.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Inter, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt\">Be a positive role model and mentor to participants. </span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Inter, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt\">Enforce participant-discipline procedures according to Newport Sea Base policy.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Inter, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt\">Communicate thoroughly and effectively with other program staff.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Inter, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt\">Participate in scheduled staff trainings throughout the year.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Inter, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt\">Be comfortable learning how to operate and maintain a coaching launch. </span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Inter, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt\">Other duties as assigned by supervisor.</span></li>\n</ul>\n<p><br><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Inter, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt\"><span style=\"font-family: Inter, sans-serif; font-weight: bold\">The essential functions of this position can be performed with or without reasonable accommodation.</span></span></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Inter, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt\"><br></span><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Physical Requirements and Work Environment</span></span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\"><br></span></p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions</li>\n<li>Ability to stand, walk, and move for extended periods</li>\n<li>Ability to lift and carry equipment (approximately 25–50 lbs)</li>\n<li>Ability to safely board, exit, and operate rowing shells, docks, and coaching launches</li>\n<li>Ability to participate in water-based activities, including swimming</li>\n<li>Regular exposure to water, sun, and outdoor environments</li>\n</ul>\n<p><br><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Inter, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; font-weight: bold\">Hours</span></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Inter, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt\"><em> June-August (Summer Camp)</em> *Maximum: 15-29 hours per week </span></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Inter, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt\"><em> September-May (School Year)</em> *Maximum: 15-20 hours per week </span></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Inter, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt\"> </span></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Equal Opportunity Employer</span></span></p>\n<p>Scouting America, Orange County Council is an equal opportunity employer and considers all qualified applicants without regard to disability or any other protected status.</p>",
