Description

Minimum Entry Salary *: Negotiable Based Upon Experience Location: Americus, GA or Warner Robins, GA Services Area/Programs: Administration Description of Duties : Position Summary: The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) is the senior medical executive for the Community Service Board (CSB) and is responsible for providing medical leadership and strategic direction for all behavioral health and intellectual and developmental disability (IDD) services delivered within the CSB’s eleven‑county service area in Southwest and Middle Georgia. As a statutorily created public entity and safety‑net provider, the CSB delivers services to individuals with serious mental illness, substance use disorders, intellectual and developmental disabilities, and those experiencing behavioral health crises. The CMO ensures these services meet DBHDD requirements, Medicaid standards, and best‑practice clinical guidelines, while advancing the CSB’s mission of access, quality, accountability, and community collaboration Key Responsibilities: Medical Authority : Serve as the CSB’s designated medical authority leader. Provide medical and psychiatric oversight for all CSB programs, including: Ensure clinical decision‑making supports recovery‑oriented, trauma‑informed, and person‑centered care models. Participate in staffing, consultation and clinical case review of complex or high-risk individuals and coordinate clinical team meetings with the Clinical Director and other CSB staff. DBHDD & Statutory Compliance : Ensure all medical and psychiatric clinical services comply. Serve as a member of the clinical team during DBHDD site reviews, investigations, audits, and corrective action plans. Ensure appropriate medical supervision, credentialing, privileging, and delegation of authority. Quality Improvement & Risk Management : Participates in the clinical quality management program in coordination with Quality, Compliance, and Risk Management departments. Assists in identifying system‑level clinical risks and implementing corrective and preventive actions. Assists in monitoring service outcome data, utilization trends, and performance metrics aligned with DBHDD expectations. Executive & Strategic Leadership : Serve as a member of the CSB Executive Leadership Team. Provide expert medical, psychiatric and therapeutic input. Advise the CEO and Governing Board on medical and psychiatric implications of DBHDD policy changes, legislative actions, and funding modifications. Support implementation of statewide DBHDD initiatives, pilots, waivers, and crisis system transformations. Medical & Psychiatric Workforce Leadership : Provide direct supervision or oversight of psychiatrists, physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, and other medical professionals in various locations through a regular physical presence in the agency, or through the use of videoconferencing including participation in peer review and quality of care audits. Support recruitment and retention of medical professionals in rural and underserved counties. Promote a culture of medical and psychiatric excellence, accountability, collaboration, and continuous learning. Ensure medical clinic staff receive appropriate training on DBHDD requirements, best practices, and emerging standards of care. Community & System Collaboration : Serve as the CSB’s senior medical/psychiatric representative. Support coordinated crisis response and diversion initiatives. Strengthen partnerships that improve access to care and reduce hospitalizations and justice system involvement. Qualifications : Medical degree recognized by the Georgia Composite Medical Board (GCMB) and licensure or license-eligible to practice medicine at a state institution or in the state of Georgia as provided by state law and two (2) years of experience at the lower level Physician 2 (HCP161) or position equivalent. Preferred Qualifications : Board certification in Psychiatry strongly preferred. Minimum of 7–10 years of clinical experience in behavioral health, psychiatry, and/or IDD services. Demonstrated senior‑level leadership experience in a Community Service Board, DBHDD‑funded provider, or public sector behavioral health system . Extensive experience serving Medicaid‑eligible and uninsured populations. Experience with crisis services, forensic populations, and rural service delivery strongly preferred. Agency is an eligible worksite for the VA Education Benefit Program (Veterans) Agency is an eligible work site for the National Health Service Corps and the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Programs. Middle Flint Health & Wellness services the following 11 counties: Webster, Marion, Sumter, Schley, Taylor, Crisp, Dooly, Macon, Houston, Peach and Crawford.
