Description

Civil Engineer/Project Manager - Public Works Role Description: Huitt-Zollars, Inc has full-time opportunity for a Civil Engineer/Project Manager for our Dallas office with at least 8-10 years’ experience and will be a registered Professional Engineer in the state of Texas. This Project Manager position should have experience in the management and design of a wide range of public works projects. Duties include but not limited to, initial project research, plan production and management of plan production staff, plan processing and management of plan processing efforts, construction administration and project close out efforts. Location: Dallas, Texas Employment Type: 40 FT Hours Compensation Type: Salary Registration(s): Registered Professional Engineer (PE License) Required Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering (BSCE) Duties: Function as a Lead Civil Engineer. Prepare preliminary engineering reports. Research jurisdictional requirements for appropriate incorporation into design and construction drawings. Prepare of proposal/contract and of project work plans and schedule. Prepare design and construction drawings using AutoCAD and information obtained from research activities. Coordinate client management and marketing efforts for future work. Prepare GIS exhibits using ArcGIS. Conduct site visits and documents findings. Work directly with clients and directing a staff with varied levels of experience and expertise. Attend, record, and distribute meeting minutes and assist with general project correspondence. Writes or prepares graphic materials for presentations or documents. Lead a team of engineers and drafters. Initiate and lead kickoff calls or high-level design calls with client in addition to preparing monthly forecasting and client cost estimates when appropriate. Key Responsibilities: Prepares and follows comprehensive Project Framework Instructions and proper work planning for a project. Ensures proper staff is assigned and utilized on their projects. Reviews project reports and performance metrics to track project progress and budget. Leads successful projects (profit, on-schedule, quality, satisfied client). Contributes to successful delivery and performance of projects. Cultivates relationships with clients and holds strong relationships with clients. Understands, follows, and enforces Huitt-Zollars' business process including weekly rhythm. Takes active steps in the pursuit of winning new business or additional opportunities with existing clients and may be responsible for a stated portion of office sales goal. Assists and/or leads team in pursuit of new work (repeat work, SOQ and Proposals). Develops and/or executes project Win strategy. Understands and follows HZ QMS and Quality initiatives. Ensures quality control measures are being adhered to on projects and daily operations. Actively engages and participates in the training, coaching, and mentoring of junior staff. Understands duties and responsibilities, possesses necessary job knowledge and technical skills, maintains job knowledge current. Role Competencies: Adaptable: Adjusting behaviors and plans to new circumstances while maintaining a positive attitude. Manages Time and Priorities: Maintaining focus on high priority work through thoughtful management of time and utilization of systems, tools and processes. Builds Relationships: Showing deep interest in others and intentionally developing rapport. Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering (BSCE). Must be a licensed PE in Texas with a minimum of 8-10 years of experience. Experience with producing accurate and complete construction plans and reports. Ability to work independently in a team environment and to manage multiple projects with limited supervision. Must be able to work directly with clients and directing a staff with varied levels of experience and expertise. Excellent verbal and written skills, communicating engineering information clearly and concisely. Ability to train staff and review work for quality assurance. Solid leadership and management skills, self-motivated, and possess a strong ability to meet deadlines, satisfy clients, and solve complex problems. Knowledge of AutoCAD, and Civil3D are preferred, Knowledge of MicroStation is a plus. Highly organized and detail oriented. Willingness/ability to assume increased responsibilities when presented. Consistently deliver proactive communication with clients. When client issues arise, address or expeditiously escalate to discipline lead. Develop relationships with clients that allows for ease in communications and problem solving. Troubleshoot issues and recommend solutions, effectively implement and document for internal and external stakeholders. Ability to make presentations.
