Description

Turning Space into a Transportation Layer for Earth Who We Are: Inversion builds advanced reentry systems to deliver next-generation capabilities from space. Our mission is to make Earth radically more accessible by turning Low-Earth Orbit into an on-demand logistics domain. We see space not as a destination, but as a platform — one that unlocks unprecedented speed and global reach. Our spacecraft are designed to deliver payloads anywhere on Earth in under an hour, operating through extreme reentry conditions and landing with high precision. These systems open the door to new ways of testing, delivering, and operating at hypersonic speeds. Inherently dual-use, our technology is built to meet urgent national security needs while laying the groundwork for future commercial applications. Backed by leading investors including Y Combinator, Spark Capital, and Lockheed Martin Ventures, and working with partners such as the U.S. Space Force and NASA, Inversion is pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in space-based defense and logistics. What You'll Do: As a Senior Avionics Electromechanical Technician , you will play a critical hands-on role in bringing Inversion's avionics systems from design to reality. Working with minimal supervision, you will lead the ground-up assembly of flight and development hardware, integrating PCBAs, connectors, harnessing, thermal interfaces, fasteners, and enclosures while independently interpreting engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, and work instructions. You will operate at the intersection of rapid R&D prototyping and rigorous production manufacturing, requiring agility to shift between scrappy, fast-iteration development builds and disciplined, process-driven flight hardware production. You'll partner with design engineers to quickly build and test new concepts with real-time feedback, then transition to implementing robust manufacturing processes with strict configuration control—all while keeping a foot in the R&D world. Your expertise in PCBA rework and inspection per IPC-A-610 and J-STD-0001 standards ensures every unit meets flight-readiness requirements. Beyond assembly, you'll shape manufacturing excellence by creating Process Plans, Standard Operating Procedures, and documentation that define how avionics are built at Inversion. You will serve as the key technical bridge between engineering intent and manufacturing execution, rapidly troubleshooting issues and implementing improvements to ensure cutting-edge designs meet the rigorous standards required for flight hardware. This role reports to the Director of Engineering, Avionics . Required Qualifications: High school diploma or GED. 5+ years of experience in electronics manufacturing, with hands-on expertise in both PCBA rework and electromechanical assembly Strong mechanical assembly skills, including torque tools, bonding, and integration of electronics into enclosures or chassis Comfortable reading and interpreting complex electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and assembly documentation Be able to manufacture components to a high workmanship standard, including some soldering and wire harnessing. Excellent communication skills and attention to detail; capable of documenting build issues clearly and contributing to root cause investigations Professional experience in debugging and conducting basic electrical tests. Track record of attention to detail, good craftsmanship, and taking pride in your work. Track record of safe work habits. Must be able to lift 50 lbs. unassisted. Must be able to stoop, bend, crawl, and maneuver in tight spaces. Ability to work non-standard shifts, overtime, and weekends as required. Position may require extended work hours and weekend work. Ability to pass vision/color requirements per NASA-STD-8739.6B Section 5.7.6 Desired Qualifications: Familiarity with standards like IPC-A-620, J-STD-001, NASA-STD-8739, or equivalent aerospace wiring quality programs. Experience with aerospace or space-grade harness manufacturing and vehicle hardware. Familiarity with running HiPot tests and developing test procedures. Experience with traceability and build documentation systems (MES, ERP) - Manufacturo, Eplison3, Ion, First Resance, or equivalent. Experience assembling test racks, HITL testbeds, or equivalent test systems. Experience supporting avionics qualification campaigns and testing (shock, vibe, thermal cycle) Proficient in aerospace PCBA hand soldering and rework to IPC-A-610/J-STD-001 Class 3 and IPC-7711/7721 standards (or NASA-STD-8739), including fine-pitch SMT and through-hole repair. Cleanroom, ESD, and FOD compliance experience. Startup experience and strong team player. The California annual base wage for this role is currently $47.00 - $61 .00 per hour.  Pay Grades are determined by role, level, location, and alignment with market data.  Individual pay will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: interviews and an assessment of several factors that are unique to each candidate, job-related skills, relevant education and experience, certifications, abilities of the candidate and internal equity. Our office headquarters is located in Playa Vista, CA. This position requires in office presence.
