Job Summary We are seeking a dedicated, capable, and experienced board certified Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to join the Pediatric Neurosurgery team at Goodman Campbell Brain and Spine, practicing at Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital. The APP will collaborate with pediatric neurosurgeons to coordinate patient care across the spectrum during the patient’s hospitalization, post-op period, and in the outpatient clinic. The APP will work closely with the surgeon to provide quality, efficient, continuous, and cost-effective care for the duration of the patient’s treatment. To be successful in this role, you should exhibit exceptional customer service abilities to align with Goodman Campbell’s dedication to a positive patient experience. As this role is an essential part of our team, active communication and respectful collaboration with peers is vital to success. Job Duties Take detailed patient medical histories Perform and record physical examinations Diagnose and decide treatment of patients Initiate therapy, prescribe medicine, give vaccinations Order lab tests, x-rays, and other diagnostic studies Counsel patients on preventive care and/or medical problems Write appropriate admission orders (including nursing care, medication orders, laboratory and radiological examinations, and obtain consultations approved by the surgeon). Review pertinent abnormal findings in the patient's history, physical examination, radiological and laboratory data with the surgeon, and obtain appropriate consultation, additional laboratory or radiological studies as needed, and initiate appropriate medical intervention. Record in progress notes pertinent findings from history, physical examination, laboratory studies, and radiological examination. Evaluate unstable patients and initiate emergency management. Write appropriate postoperative orders including general and specific nursing care, medications, including controlled substances for analgesia and sedation, laboratory and radiological studies. Attend the patient in the early postoperative period reviewing laboratory and radiological data and making appropriate interventions. Initiate treatment of postoperative complications advising the attending surgeon of unexpected events, providing an accurate synopsis of events related to a major change in the patient’s condition and describing corrective measures already taken. Daily assessment of patients postoperative course, write note of patients progress in chart as it pertains to the supervising physician- and implement indicated therapy as determined by the supervising physician. Complete discharge paper and summaries. Communicates appropriately and timely with physicians regarding any patient care issues. Communicates effectively and professionally with other service lines and staff members. Conducts self in a professional manner at all times. Responsible for professional growth and development, including regular attendance at available in-services, seminars, and other education offerings. Complies with professional, regulatory, governmental and departmental standards Contributes to the professional development of others by sharing knowledge and skills, providing and accepting feedback, and contributing to the education of staff and students. Provide excellent care in the outpatient setting in clinic in collaboration with the pediatric neurosurgeon. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required Ability to work independently Excellent judgement and decision making Commitment to ongoing education and development Critical listening skills, ability to listen attentively and show empathy Ability to communicate clearly to patients, family, and colleagues in a constructive, non- judgmental manner Excellent oral and written communication, collaboration, problem-solving and organizational skills Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to effectively manage conflict, addressing issues in a manner that maintains good working relationships Ability to keep detailed records and provide written documentation in a complete, accurate, readable, and timely manner Ability to utilize patient information to meet identified goals Ability to handle pressure of life-threatening situations In-depth knowledge and understanding of health promotion and maintenance with ability to develop, implement, and communicate patient education plans Strong pharmacology, anatomy, and physiology knowledge Desire to work with all types of people and work as a team member Good eye/hand coordination and precision Advanced computer knowledge Educational and Experience Required Education : Master’s Degree in Nursing with National Certification as a Pediatric or Family Nurse Practitioner or Masters from an accredited Physician Assistant Program and national certification from NCCPA or AAPA Licensure and Certification : Requires current unlimited Indiana State license as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant Requires unlimited Indiana controlled substances registration certificate Requires unlimited DEA Current CPR Certification Current ACLS Certification Preferred Experience: Previous experience within pediatric neurosurgery, a surgical specialty, pediatrics, or neurology is preferred. Physical Demands Able to sit for an extended period of time in focused work. Long periods of telephone and computer work. Mobility within a health clinic setting Able to stand for long hours Manual dexterity necessary Occasional lifting involving patients, as well as occasional lifting or moving of medical equipment and supplies Able to remain calm and composed when interacting with patients and/or family members Able to pay attention to detail for long periods of time Work under time constraints Environmental conditions to include frequent contact with blood and other body fluids, as well as exposure to air or surface borne illnesses
