Position Summary To help reduce or eliminate speech and hearing impediments that interferes with the individual student’s ability to derive full benefit from the district’s educational program. The Speech Pathologist will service students in Orleans Parish non-public schools. Salary Offers Our salary offers reflect a commitment to equity and transparency. Work Environment Listed below are key points regarding environmental demands and the work environment of the job.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the job. - Required to use motor coordination with finger dexterity (such as keyboarding, machine operation, etc.) part of the workday; - Required to exert physical effort in handling objects more than 30 pounds rarely; - Required to be exposed to physical occupational risks (such as cuts, burns, exposure to toxic chemicals) rarely; - Required to be exposed to physical environment which involves dirt, odors, noise, weather extremes or similar elements rarely; - Normal setting for this job is an office/school setting. Performance Evaluation The employee will be evaluated based on the above position using either two methods: via COMPASS or a NOLA-PS evaluating instrument. If the employee holds an Educational Leadership certification, he/she will be evaluated via COMPASS to ensure renewal of certification. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Serves as a resource to school staff members in the development of a balanced program for oral communication and speech improvement; Provides a therapeutic program to meet individual needs of students with speech and hearing impairments. Assists and guide teachers in observing, describing, and referring suspected and identified speech and language impairments; Serves as a member of the multidisciplinary evaluation team and provides a comprehensive assessment and diagnosis of speech, voice, hearing, and language impairments; Develops compliant speech evaluation reports from assessments conducted. Prepares and disseminates the completed evaluation or speech component within mandated timelines; Delivers speech and language services in accordance with all federal, state regulations and local policy and procedures; Provides screening to identify children with speech impairments at regular intervals and at specific levels; Assists in proper referrals of individuals to agencies and specialist in the community as appropriate; Provides appropriate individualized education programs for therapy to meet individual students’ needs and correct existing speech or language impairments; Develops Web-based IEPs and/or Services Plans for assigned students and serves as a member of the instructional team to develop data-based present levels of academic achievement and functional performance, and measurable goals and objectives; Collaborates with classroom teachers and other school staff members to implement therapy and language activities into the student’s daily schedule; Provides information, support, and counseling to agencies and families when appropriate; Keeps abreast of assistive technology strategies and is able to implement appropriate strategies to enhance student language acquisition; Produces in-service education and serve as a consultant to teachers and school staff members on topics concerning speech impairment; Keeps and timely submits compliant records of the assigned student caseload, such as service logs and progress reports; Completes all required reports both local and state; and Performs other duties as required. Education and Experience Bachelor’s Degree required. Master’s Degree preferred; A valid Speech License and Teaching certificate in Speech Pathology are required; and Valid Louisiana Teaching Certificate. Other Knowledge, Skills or Abilities Required Must possess basic computer skills and demonstrate the ability to use various types of software programs; Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Knowledge of laws and regulations pertaining to special education Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills; Excellent written and verbal communication skills; and Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, staff, and outside agencies.
