With major growth sectors such as renewable energy, energy storage, and electric vehicle charging, EPC is growing fast.</p><p><strong>What We Do:</strong></p><p>EPC is located in the center of a high-tech commercial park in Poway, CA to meet the demands of its rapidly growing customer base. &nbsp;We are focused on developing and manufacturing robust and reliable power conversion solutions to solve real-world customer problems, and doing it in a smaller, more powerful footprint than anything else available today. &nbsp;We enjoy what we do, and we encourage a creative, healthy, and highly collaborative environment. &nbsp;Our goal is to work together as a fun, creative, and professional team; learning from and encouraging one-another as we push the state of the art forward in power electronics.</p><p><strong>The Role:</strong></p><p>The Senior Controls Engineer role is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining all aspects of electrical control systems, equipment, and machinery. Expect a hands-on, highly collaborative environment, with a breadth of development tasks in the queue and constant learning around every corner. &nbsp;Our engineering team comes from multi-megawatt, medium voltage industries and brings high-power experience to lower power (40kW to 10MW) applications.&nbsp;</p><p>Industry experience along with talent and determination are absolutely required. &nbsp;All applicants must have the ability to operate across multiple disciplines in a hands-on, lab-friendly environment, taking designs from concept through testing and then to successful delivery.</p><p><br><strong>Responsibilities:</strong></p><ul type=\"disc\"><li>Analyze data and make appropriate scientific decision utilizing critical and unique expertise to develop and review detailed design specifications for projects</li><li>Oversee and evaluate plan performances and outcomes. Lead analysis of task, user, and organizational requirements for software applications&nbsp;</li><li>Build statistical models, test hypotheses, visualize, summarize, interpret, and report results</li><li>Lead new project designs, manage software design and development work, meet deployment schedules, and balance tasks and priorities across multiple design concepts</li><li>Manage projects addressing the data collection, analysis, and integration needs, especially around the area of risk assessment Interface with a cross functional team for development and product release</li><li>Developing controls algorithms and implementing in embedded code.</li><li>Developing controls algorithms for different types of power converters</li><li>Collaborate with component engineers, design engineers, quality assurance, manufacturing, and part vendors on root cause and corrective action for failing products</li><li>Develop stable real-time control methodologies and systems</li><li>Propose new ideas that expand the modularity, performance, or otherwise improve the response of high-end power converters</li><li>Develop &amp; implement modulators for different circuit topologies</li><li>Participate in the design, component selection, and layout of control PCBs</li><li>Guide and mentor junior engineers</li><li>Maintain the strict confidentiality of sensitive information</li><li>Participate in organizing and writing results for primary publication</li><li>Responsible for observing all laws, regulations and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company</li><li>Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices</li><li>Develop stable real-time control methodologies and systems</li></ul><p>&nbsp;</p><p><strong>Qualifications/Skills:</strong></p><ul type=\"disc\"><li>Must have a detailed and extensive expertise of software development concepts, principles, and theory and have applied that knowledge in the development of new principles and concepts</li><li>Knowledge of embedded systems</li><li>Familiar with Power electronic stability or different type of modulators or modulations schemes</li><li>Done controls development using tools like Matlab and simulink</li><li>Have experience in motor controls or highly dynamic inverter controls</li><li>Experience with prototype hardware, lab or field testing</li><li>Experience collecting and analyzing typical power converter data such as currents, voltages, gating waveforms</li><li>Knowledge of embedded C</li><li>Familiar with filter compensation</li><li>Experience with electric vehicles or utilities grid scale inverters</li></ul><p>&nbsp;</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p><strong>Experience Requirements:</strong></p><ul type=\"disc\"><li>7+ years of controls experience&nbsp;</li><li>MA in Electrical engineering or equal experience&nbsp;</li><li>Demonstrated experience controlling motors, active rectifiers, DC-DC converters, or grid-tied inverters.</li><li>Mastery of: stability analyses, rotating and stationary reference frames, closed and open loop controllers.</li><li>Proven mastery of various control methodologies including, but not limited to:</li></ul><p>&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; - Sensor &amp; sensor less vector control</p><p>&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; - PWM methods</p><ul type=\"disc\"><li>Firmware / FPGA programming experience.</li><li>Experience with test and debugging</li><li>Circuit design and board layout experience.</li></ul><p><br></p><p><strong>Benefits:</strong></p><ul type=\"disc\"><li>401(k) matching</li><li>Dental and vision insurance</li><li>Disability insurance</li><li>Employee assistance program</li><li>Flexible spending account</li><li>Health insurance&nbsp;</li><li>Life insurance</li><li>Paid time off</li><li>Tuition reimbursement</li></ul><p><br>&nbsp;<br>&nbsp;</p><p><strong>COVID-19 considerations:</strong></p><p>In order to ensure the safest environment possible for all team members during the COVID-19 pandemic, team members are provided hand sanitizer, gloves, face masks, alternative work schedules and whenever possible isolated work areas</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>EPC Power is an equal opportunity employer.
