Description Position Classification: Regular, full-time, hourly, non-exempt and benefit-eligible staff position. For more benefit information visit Why Work at UCO? General Schedule: The general schedule for this position is 40 hours a week, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; shifts outside of the general schedule may be required, when necessary. Position Overview Assembles pipe sections, tubing, or fittings, using tools of the trade. Installs pipe assemblies, fittings, valves, and/ or appliances. Repair or replace plumbing fixtures. Maintains or repair plumbing by replacing broken pipes or opening clogged drains. Measures, cuts, threads, or assembles pipe to required angle. Communicates effectively. Assists other plumbing team members in various plumbing services related to our mission. Available to help with a facilities emergency. A pre-arranged shift change may be implemented for predictable emergencies like inclement weather. Job Duties Repairs or replaces plumbing systems, domestic water piping, sewer piping, roof piping, and storm drains. Detects gas leaks and repairs or replaces piping. Assembles, installs and repairs plumbing fixtures and equipment to include pumps, toilets, sinks, showers, tubs, drinking fountains, faucets, traps and drains. Cuts openings into walls and floors to accommodate pipe and pipe fittings. Cuts, threads, and bends pipe for installation. Assembles and installs controls to include meters, valves, regulators, safety devices and other components necessary to properly control liquid and gas systems. Opens clogged drains with plumbers snake or vacuum plunger. Installs valves, pipe fittings, and manufactured pipes. Maintains water features by cleaning them and replenishing chemicals. Performs line locates and analyzes blueprints. Operates essential equipment in the performance of duties such as a jet sewer machine, backhoe, trencher, and boat. Occasionally help with welding using various welding tools. Performs duties and complies with needs of special events, before, during and after the special events are completed. Observes, communicates, complies with and enforces Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) provisions; analyzes supplies and materials used in the performance, training, and duties of the trade. Perform other related duties as necessary to support the UCO mission. Qualifications Required: Requires 2 years previous experience or equivalent combination of education and work experience. Must pass pre-employment screening. A valid driver's license is required to carry out the position's duties and responsibilities. Qualifications Preferred: 2 years commercial general maintenance experience. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities : Ability to safely operate tools of trade. Sufficient dexterity and coordination to operate equipment common to the trade. Reads and understands manuals and instructions printed in English. Communicates effectively both orally and in writing. Knowledgeable in sound human relations practices in establishing and maintaining effective working relations with outside vendors, within the Physical Plant, and among the UCO Community. Physical Demands: Reasonable accommodations (in accordance with ADA requirements) may be made, upon request, to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions. This position requires a physical. The physical requirements are: Ability to lift 50 lbs. regularly and 75 lbs. occasionally. Ability to lift 50 lbs. and carry 200 feet. Ability to lift 50 lbs. and carry up/down 30 stairs. Ability to walk regularly for long periods of time across the campus. Ability to sit for long periods of time. Ability to use and reach with hands and arms regularly. Ability to climb in high places using a ladder or balance frequently. Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, bend and crawl occasionally. Ability to push or pull dolly loaded with up to 120 pounds for 300 feet occasionally. Must have close, distance, and peripheral vision. Depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Pass PFT (pulmonary function test).
