    "jobDescription": "<p style=\"text-align:left\"><b>Position Title:</b></p>Quarterly Lecturer - Spanish (Pool) 2026 - 2027<p style=\"text-align:inherit\"></p><p style=\"text-align:left\"><b>Position Type:</b></p>Temporary<p style=\"text-align:inherit\"></p><p style=\"text-align:left\"><b>Salary Range:</b></p><p>$9,552 for each 4 or 5-unit course.</p><p style=\"text-align:inherit\"></p><p style=\"text-align:left\"><b>Purpose:</b></p><p>The Department of Modern Languages &amp; Literatures at Santa Clara University, a Jesuit, Catholic university, seeks applicants for Quarterly Lecturer (non-tenure track) positions to teach courses in Spanish during the 2026 - 2027 academic year. Specific assignments will be made according to the academic qualifications of the individual and programmatic need.</p><p></p><p>The successful candidate will teach no more than two courses in any quarter and no more than four total courses over the fall, winter and spring quarters. Santa Clara University is on the quarter system, and the quarters are 10 weeks long with an 11th week for final examinations. All classes will be presented in-person, however, if the county health and university health conditions deteriorate, the successful candidate may be asked to teach part of the course online. <b>NOTE: This is an applicant POOL; as such, positions are hired only as needed.</b></p><p></p><h1><span class=\"emphasis\">BASIC QUALIFICATIONS</span></h1><ul><li><p>Ph.D or ABD in Spanish and/or Latin American Studies, Linguistics or Education with a Spanish emphasis, or a closely-related field preferred.  Alternatively, Master&#39;s level applicants with at least 2 years of experience as instructor of record at the college level.</p></li><li><p>Demonstrated excellence in teaching Spanish at the college/university level.</p><p>Preference will be given to outstanding candidates who, in addition to TA experience, have a record of excellence in teaching Spanish courses at least two or more years at the University level.</p></li><li><p>Excellent communication skills.</p></li></ul><p></p><h1><span class=\"emphasis\"><b>PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS</b></span></h1><ul><li><p>Experience and expertise with communicatively-oriented, proficiency-based language instruction, ACTFL World Readiness Standards, and instructional technologies.</p></li><li><p>Expertise in 2nd Language Acquisition &amp; Pedagogy.</p></li><li><p>Experience with inclusive pedagogical practices that promote access and academic success for all students.</p></li><li><p>Experience teaching and mentoring a diverse population of undergraduate students.</p></li></ul><p></p><h1><span class=\"emphasis\"><b>RESPONSIBILITIES</b></span></h1><p><b>TEACHING (100%)</b><br /><b>Fulfill all responsibilities associated with teaching assigned courses, including but not limited to:</b></p><ul><li><p>Teach no more than two courses per quarter and no more than four courses over three academic quarters (fall, winter, spring).</p></li><li><p>Conducting and appearing at all assigned class meetings in a timely and prepared manner that demonstrates a command of the discipline and skill in presenting it effectively;</p></li><li><p>Assigning and evaluating assignments that align with the course description and course learning outcomes, and providing timely feedback to students;</p></li><li><p>Holding regular weekly office hours on campus;</p></li><li><p>Submitting student grades that are appropriate, accurate and fair measures of student performance to the Office of the Registrar by the designated deadline;</p></li><li><p>Administering numerical and narrative evaluations for all courses;</p></li><li><p>Teaching from an approved syllabus for the University Core courses assigned or work with the Chair to design an appropriate syllabus for submission for approval from the relevant Faculty Core Curriculum Committee;</p></li><li><p>Work in conjunction with Language coordinator on course development, pedagogy and assessment.</p></li></ul><p></p><p><b>SERVICE (0%)</b><br />This position does not require any service duties.
