This leader will set the company’s technology vision and strategy, oversee the development and implementation of new technologies and solutions, and maintain Calibrant’s commitment to superlative levels of reliability and safety.
The CTO will work closely with leaders from across the organization to ensure the company’s technology strategy is continually able to meet evolving customer and market needs, while equipping front end teams with the ability to accelerate project evaluation and deal flow. A successful candidate will have demonstrated experience building high performing technical teams, evaluating and implementing new technologies, and establishing trusted partnerships.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Evaluate technologies and solutions to enhance energy generation, grid reliability, and cost savings for distributed energy customers including large industrials and data centers.
Analyze market trends and technical advancements to identify best available (and emerging) technologies and products from a techno economic perspective that results in the strongest value proposition to the market (i.e., factoring in installed capital cost and trends, ongoing operational cost, technical performance and warranties, financial bankability, environmental attributes, supply chain, incentive compliance and tariff exposure). Lead the collection, validation, and prioritization of competing requirements across internal and external stakeholders, and incorporate into technology evaluation and strategy.
Develop and implement sourcing and procurement strategies that align with business goals and ensure technology competitiveness and cost effectiveness. Manage key supplier partnerships, and lead contract negotiations to secure favorable terms while minimizing risk. Stay current on industry trends and emerging technologies, identify opportunities for new customer solutions, product performance/reliability and or cost savings
Oversee product development and launch of new software and/or hardware solutions to support customer requirements, project modeling and underwriting, and facilitate ongoing asset management, and maximize portfolio performance.
Lead technical risk management and implement cybersecurity strategies and measures to ensure Calibrant’s portfolio of energy assets and infrastructure is protected from existing and emerging cyber threats.
Fostering partnerships with industry stakeholders, including standards committees and regulatory bodies to address challenges and promote sustainable energy initiatives. Advocating for policies that support clean energy initiatives and navigating complex regulatory frameworks; ensure operational efficiency, sustainability, and compliance in the energy sector.
Support business development, including direct engagement with prospective clients on technical subject matters; use subject matter expertise to overcome potential client objections or concerns, inform technical solutions that meet Calibrant/client/market requirements, enable prudent forward business commitments for technology roadmap.
Hire, develop, and lead high performing technical teams across software, digital, and infrastructure engineering disciplines.

15+ years of progressive technology leadership experience, including 10 years in an executive role within the energy, or energy infrastructure sectors. Demonstrated leadership in developing an organization’s technology strategy.
Deep understanding of energy sector and experience in grid modernization, including improving transmission and distribution systems to accommodate changing generation mix, implementing energy storage solutions, and utilizing advanced monitoring and control technologies.
10 years of experience with complex decentralized energy systems: such as on site or behind the meter energy projects, microgrids, and community based renewable energy projects, especially through the lens of long term asset ownership, with experience in defining cost effective strategies, key partnerships, and technologies that will operate for at least 15 20 years.
Significant experience with power infrastructure for critical facilities (e.g., data centers, complex industrial manufacturers); ability to credibly engage on technical matters with key stakeholders at prospective C&I clients and their utilities.
Demonstrated success working across a diverse set of energy technologies including fuel cells, thermal generation, and the integration of multiple energy technologies into a single system, is highly preferred.
Familiarity with BESS/DER controls, data science for forecasting and optimization, wholesale power market participation, asset / fleet control and management, cloud based software infrastructure.
