OVERVIEW
The Safety Coordinator is responsible for developing and implementing programs, practices, and procedures to minimize risk and continuously improve the safety management system. This position oversees the general safety and MSHA programs, while providing recommendations, insight, and budgets to senior leadership across the TIR operations.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Ensure the company complies with all relevant safety regulations and standards established by MSHA, OSHA, and other applicable regulatory agencies. This includes staying current with changes in regulations and implementing necessary adjustments. Stay informed about industry best practices and innovations in safety technology. Continuously assess and improve safety programs and initiatives.
Develop and implement safety training programs for employees at all levels, from new hires to experienced workers. Ensure all employees understand safety procedures, equipment usage, and potential hazards. Oversee safety programs, tool talks, drug testing, JSAs, policies, and procedures across all plants and quarries. Work closely with the Facilities Managers, Plant Managers, and Supervisors – AR, AZ, MS1, and MS2 to coordinate safety-related updates, training, reports, and information sharing. Promote a strong organizational safety culture. Encourage a proactive approach to safety among all employees and foster an environment where safety is a top priority. Keep employees, management, and relevant stakeholders informed about safety-related matters, including updates on safety performance, regulations changes, and safety goals. Collaborate with other departments, such as HR, operations, and engineering to integrate safety into all aspects of the business. Monitor training progress and provide reminders to supervisors when employees need required training.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date safety records, including incident reports, safety inspection records, and training documentation. These records may be required for regulatory compliance and identifying safety performance trends. Establish and track safety-related KPIs to measure the effectiveness of safety programs and initiatives. KPIs may include incident rates, lost time due to accidents, and safety audit results.
Respond to and investigate safety incidents, accidents, and near misses. Identify the root causes of incidents and develop strategies to prevent their recurrence. Ensure that proper reporting procedures are followed. Develop and maintain emergency response plans for each facility, including evacuation procedures, first-aid resources, and communication protocols. Conduct regular safety audits and inspections of facilities, equipment and processes to identify potential hazards and areas for improvement. Ensure that corrective actions are taken promptly. Manage the safety department’s budget, including allocating resources for training, equipment, and safety improvement projects. Perform other duties as assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION:
Associates degree in a scientific or technical field or a minimum of three years of work experience in a health and safety role.
CERTIFICATIONS & LICENSES:
MSHA Training / Qualified Trainer
EXPERIENCE:
Minimum three years of MSHA or OSHA-related oversight in a manufacturing environment.
Microsoft Office applications and Health Safety Institute (HIS) preferred
Bilingual preferred (Spanish)
