The well-located domestic and international hub was founded in 1706 and now boasts state-of-the-art facilities. Baltimore has become one of busiest ports on the East Coast, handling annually over 30 million tons of cargo from automobiles to zinc. McAllister Towing has been a steadfast contributor to the port's success since 1980, providing the Upper Chesapeake Bay and surrounding areas with outstanding docking, undocking, towing, dredge services, and general harbor assist services.</span></span></p><p><span style=\"font-family:&quot;Calibri&quot;,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;\">McAllister Towing of Baltimore is seeking highly qualified Captains for their crew boat supporting the Key Bridge rebuild project.</span></span><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;\">&nbsp; The schedule is TBD. &nbsp;</span><span style=\"font-family:&quot;Calibri&quot;,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;\"> &nbsp;Duties and responsibilities are outlined below:</span></span></p><p><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;line-height:115%;\"><strong>Captain&nbsp;</strong></span></p><p><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;line-height:115%;\"><strong>Reports to:</strong></span></p><ul style=\"list-style-type:disc;\"><li><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;line-height:115%;\">The Captain reports to the Port Captain or his/her designated representative on routine matters; accountable to the Vice President/General Manager as necessary. &nbsp;</span></li></ul><p><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;line-height:115%;\"><strong>Supervises:</strong></span></p><ul style=\"list-style-type:disc;\"><li><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;line-height:115%;\">The Captain is responsible for and is required to supervise all crewmembers of the vessel to which he/she is assigned.</span></li></ul><p><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;line-height:115%;\"><strong>Description of Duties:</strong></span></p><ul style=\"list-style-type:disc;\"><li><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;line-height:115%;\">Master of the Vessel.</span></li><li><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;line-height:115%;\">Vessel Security Officer (VSO)</span></li><li><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;line-height:115%;\">Responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the vessel, performance of crew, and safety of passengers and cargo.</span></li><li><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;line-height:115%;\">Serve as Officer in Charge of the Navigation Watch.</span></li><li><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;line-height:115%;\">Assess and maintain vessel seaworthiness.</span></li><li><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;line-height:115%;\">Ensure the availability and serviceability of required lifesaving equipment, lifeboats, and safety equipment. Must make sure all equipment is maintained in good condition.</span></li><li><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;line-height:115%;\">Verify the serviceability of all installed fire detection and firefighting systems and equipment.</span></li><li><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;line-height:115%;\">Require accommodations to be maintained in safe, clean condition at all times.</span></li><li><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;line-height:115%;\">Provide clear direction to subordinates.</span></li><li><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;line-height:115%;\">Prepare periodic performance evaluations for subordinates.</span></li><li><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;line-height:115%;\">Maintain vessel and crew readiness for emergency responses; immediately report any collision, stranding, fire, grounding, personnel injury, etc. onboard the vessel.</span></li><li><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;line-height:115%;\">Conduct and report the results of periodic vessel audits and inspections.</span></li><li><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;line-height:115%;\">Operate and maintain the assigned vessel in accordance with the quality, safety, security and environmental protection policies and procedures.</span></li><li><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;line-height:115%;\">Organize and conduct required training, drills, and exercises.</span></li><li><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;line-height:115%;\">Complete, submit, and maintain required records, logs, and reports.</span></li><li><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;line-height:115%;\">Ensure adequate vessel manning and watches.</span></li><li><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;line-height:115%;\">Project a positive company image and maintain professional, amicable relationships with customers, pilots, terminal personnel, and the public at all times.</span></li><li><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;line-height:115%;\">Responsible to maintain proper personal hygiene.</span></li><li><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;line-height:115%;\">Other duties as may be assigned.</span></li></ul><p><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;line-height:115%;\"><strong>Minimum Requirements:</strong></span></p><ul style=\"list-style-type:disc;\"><li><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;line-height:115%;\">Current U.S. Coast Guard license for Captain, 100 ton Inland</span></li><li><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;line-height:115%;\">Current U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Credential</span></li><li><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;line-height:115%;\">Valid Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC)</span></li><li><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;line-height:115%;\">Marine Radio Operators Permit.</span></li><li><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;line-height:115%;\">First Aid/CPR</span></li><li><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;line-height:115%;\">Must live in/near the Baltimore area and have reliable transportation</span></li><li><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;line-height:115%;\">High school diploma or equivalent.</span></li><li><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;line-height:115%;\">Pass pre-employment drug test.</span></li><li><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;line-height:115%;\">Pass pre-employment physical.</span></li></ul><p><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;line-height:115%;\"><strong>Physical Requirements:</strong></span></p><p><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;line-height:115%;\">The unpredictable, ever-changing, and inherently dangerous nature of vessel operations require the Captain to be physically qualified to ensure his/her own safety, as well as that of the vessel and crew. Specific physical requirements include:</span></p><ul style=\"list-style-type:disc;\"><li><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;line-height:115%;\">Adequate vision (i.e., absent any color blindness or impairment that cannot be corrected with prescription lenses).</span></li><li><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;line-height:115%;\">Adequate hearing.</span></li><li><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;line-height:115%;\">Capable of walking and standing on wet surfaces for extended periods of time.</span></li><li><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;line-height:115%;\">Able to handle heavy lines and operate heavy machinery.</span></li><li><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;line-height:115%;\">Ability to climb a 12-foot ladder without assistance.</span></li><li><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;line-height:115%;\">Ability to hoist oneself up and over a 12-inch wide, 6-foot-high barrier.</span></li><li><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;line-height:115%;\">Sufficient strength to:</span></li><li><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;line-height:115%;\">Lift 100 lbs. from deck to waist level;</span></li><li><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;line-height:115%;\">Lift 50 lbs. from deck to shoulder level;</span></li><li><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;line-height:115%;\">Lift 35 lbs. from deck to overhead; and</span></li><li><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;line-height:115%;\">Pull (drag) 120 lbs. at least 20 feet.</span></li></ul><p><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;line-height:115%;\"><strong>FLSA Status:</strong></span></p><ul style=\"list-style-type:disc;\"><li><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;line-height:115%;\">Exempt</span></li></ul><p><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;line-height:115%;\">*This position description does not promise or imply that the functions listed are the only duties to be performed or that the position may not change or be eliminated.
