Overview ADVANCED PRACTICE NURSE (GASTROENTEROLOGY) - Madigan Army Medical Center, Tacoma, Washington Joint Base Lewis-McChord, WA Madigan Army Medical Center is one of four Level II Trauma Centers in Washington State and participates in unique partnerships with civilian facilities to provide care to non-beneficiary trauma victims beyond the gates of Joint Base Lewis-McChord. At Madigan you will practice alongside civilian and military health care experts and experience unique professional opportunities. Our staff serves by caring for our military but are not subject to military requirements. We operate within safe staffing standards - giving you time to provide exceptional care. Joint Base Lewis-McChord, its affiliated clinics and dental clinic are located at Fort Lewis, Washington, near the city of Tacoma. Madigan AMC is one of only three designated Level Two trauma centers within the U.S. Medical Command. Tacoma is a progressive city of 200,000 nestled between Seattle and the state capital of Olympia. The region offers the attractions of larger metropolitan areas, with a hometown feel. MAJOR DUTIES 1. Performs a variety of professional, direct, clinical healthcare duties within the field of Gastroenterology. Specific duties range from evaluation of routine colon cancer screenings to the management of moderately complex acute and chronic illnesses related to Gastroenterology. Utilizes appropriate ancillary services and consultants, as needed to provide treatment. Records outpatient records to include admission and discharge paperwork and progress notes required by hospital regulations and standards of practice. 2. As part of primary clinical evaluation, takes health and medical history from patients or family members and records findings for the record. Examines patients and performs initial patient work-up and assessment of care and treatment; determines the need for and orders laboratory tests, X-rays and other procedures to include endoscopic evaluation when necessary as well as appropriate referrals to specialties or subspecialties, ensuring a complete patient assessment. Discriminates between normal and abnormal findings to recognize early stages of serious physical, emotional, or mental problems. Provides surveillance of chronically ill patients, adjusting regimens within established protocols, recognizing conditions which require referral to a Gastroenterology Physician. Works collaboratively with physicians in patient management, evaluation and revision of therapeutic plans. Decides on specific methodology based on the needs of patients; refers extremely and selected complex gastroenterological problems for physician management. Diagnoses disease, illness, disorder, or injury, instituting treatment of patients. Seeks advice of appropriate physicians for more serious or uncommon conditions. Prescribes medications and treats a variety of diseases, disorders, and injuries. Treats patients returning for routine or directed follow-up and treatment of chronic illnesses previously documented in medical records. Writes routine orders on outpatients. Orders administration of and dispenses medications and prescribed controlled substance in accordance with approved treatment protocols. Records treatment, progress notes including tests and procedures, and notations of prescriptions and drugs dispensed or administered. Provides consultation, teaching, and coordination with patients and their family members of treatment and medical care. 3. Collaborates with physician advisor regarding management of the most complex gastroenterology patients, such as Inflammatory Bowel Disease, requiring biological therapy or administration of corticosteroid treatment, in evaluating and revising therapeutic plans. Refers unstable patients to physician. Plans with other healthcare professionals and agencies involved in providing services to patients and their families. Coordinates health care, as appropriate. Receives referrals from other healthcare professionals. Documents all observations, plans, treatments, teaching, and other important findings in patient records. Identifies components of the nursing regimen that may be delegated to other nursing personnel. Performs other duties as assigned. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Foreign Degree : A degree from a Foreign Nursing School. Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools. Licensure : A current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States; and you must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. Licensure: A current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse in the specialty of Anesthesia or related specialty from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. Exemption : You are exempt from the basic requirements above if you are a current federal employee occupying a position in the 0610 occupational series and have been continuously employed in this occupational series since September 27, 2017 or before. Additional information about transcripts is in this document.\n<strong>Basic Requirement for Advanced Practice Nurse:</strong>\n<strong>Degree</strong>: A graduate or higher level degree from an accredited professional nursing educational progra is requiired. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education,\n<strong>Foreign Degree</strong>: A degree from a Foreign Nursing School. Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.\n<strong>Licensure</strong>: A current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States; and you must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination.\n<strong>Licensure:</strong> A current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse in the specialty of Anesthesia or related specialty from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.\n<strong>Exemption</strong>: You are exempt from the basic requirements above if you are a current federal employee occupying a position in the 0610 occupational series and have been continuously employed in this occupational series since September 27, 2017 or before. Applicants claiming this exemption must meet the requirement below. Note: You will be required to provide appropriate documentation to the respective Human Resources Office to validate your status.Degree or diploma from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated State accrediting agency at the time the program was completed by the applicant.Active, current registration as a professional nurse in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.\n<strong>In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:</strong>\n<strong>Professional Nursing Experience at the GS-12:</strong> One or more full years of professional nursing experience which includes administering anesthetics to patients and monitoring patients receiving anesthesia care. This definition of professional nursing experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).\n<strong>Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.</strong>",
