They are not listed in any order of importance. The omission of specific statements of the duties or functions does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.</strong></p><ul><li>Performs grounds maintenance activities, i.e., mowing, weed-eating, edging, blowing, planting foliage and mulching.</li><li>Performs shrubbery and tree maintenance activities, i.e., pruning limbs, shaping hedges, cutting branches.</li><li>Operates various electric, gas and manually powered tools and equipment, i.e., saws, sprayers, air compressors, mowers, blowers, weed-eaters, hedge trimmers.</li><li>Provides grounds maintenance services; ensures cleanliness, order, and environmentally safe conditions of district property; addresses safety concerns in a time efficient manner; reports real or potential maintenance/repair needs.</li><li>Ensures proper cleaning and maintenance of equipment, tools, and materials utilized; ensures adherence to principles and practices of safe use and operation of equipment, tools, and materials.</li><li>Maintains irrigation system.</li><li>Removes trash by emptying trash containers; transporting materials to disposal area; recycling materials.</li><li>Responds to and takes appropriate actions in the event of emergency or critical incidents to resolve, confine or otherwise prevent potentially injurious or hazardous conditions. Is aware of and reports any unauthorized person on the premises.</li><li>Maintains building interior by dusting and polishing furniture, equipment, mirrors and fixtures; washing windows, counters, walls and woodwork.</li></ul><p><strong>QUALIFICATIONS</strong></p><p>To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.</p><ul><li>Must have knowledge of grounds equipment operation.</li><li>Knowledge of the proper use and disposal of hazardous materials, safe handling techniques, and use of proper safety equipment as outlined by OSHA.</li><li>Must have repair skills for minor equipment.</li><li>Must be self-motivated and prompt in performing tasks.</li></ul><p>· Must successfully pass Diocesan background screening and Safe Environment Training.</p><p><br></p><p><strong>CATHOLIC FAITH</strong></p><p>Requires an appreciation and respect for the Catholic Church and its teachings. Church employees must conduct themselves in a manner that is consistent with and supportive of the mission and purpose of the Church. Their public behavior must not violate the faith, morals or laws of the Church or the policies of the diocese.</p><p><br></p><p><strong>EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE</strong></p><p>High School diploma or equivalent preferred supplemented by any previous experience demonstrating ability to fulfill the physical and dexterity requirements of the work, as applicable to the assigned maintenance area (i.e., grounds maintenance, mowing, and tree trimming); or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.</p><p><br></p><p><strong>OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES</strong></p><p>The ability to communicate, listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences. The ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing. Strong command of both written and spoken English language.</p><p><br></p><p><strong>WORKING CONDITIONS</strong></p><p>The working hours of this position are not limited to an 8-hour day. This person will need to be available in the evening and weekends, as needed. Must be willing to work in conditions of stress and function well under pressure.</p><p><br></p><p><strong>PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS</strong></p><p>Tasks involve the ability to exert heavy physical effort in heavy work, with greater emphasis on climbing 35 feet and balancing, but typically also involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials 30 pounds. A review of this position has excluded the marginal functions of the position that are incidental to the performance of fundamental job duties. All duties and responsibilities are essential job functions and requirements are subject to possible modifications to reasonably accommodate individuals with disabilities. To perform this job successfully, the incumbent(s) will possess the abilities and aptitudes to perform each duty proficiently.
