Accountant II
Accountant II is assigned to the Financial Services office of the Administrative Operations Division. Work involves reviewing accounting documents, records, examining paperwork and preparing deposits according to agency policy.
This position:
· Maintains and balances financial statements, reports, schedules, and exhibits; processes general journal entries; and processes payment, cash, purchase, travel, and related vouchers.
· Audits accounting and financial documents for accuracy and compliance with departmental policies and procedures and state and federal statutes.
· Prepares periodic analyses of fund balances and prepares technical reports.
· Classifies, codes, posts, and balances financial and accounting documents and records.
· Receives cash, prepares deposit slips, and maintains cash control records.
· Reviews agency accounting records, such as fund, appropriation, and revenue collection records; and ensures that agency assets are accounted for properly.
· Research and reconciles discrepancies in accounts, bank statements, or appropriation balances, and reports findings.
· Performs other duties as assigned.

· State laws, rules, procedures, and regulations relevant to job requirements.
· Generally accepted accounting principles and procedures affecting maintenance of accounting records and automated accounting systems.
This position requires demonstrated skill in:
· Problem solving and critical thinking.
· Using Microsoft Office software applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and SharePoint.
· Using personal computers sufficient to enter and extract data from related systems and programs such as Centralized Accounting Payroll and Personnel (CAPPS) and other systems required to perform the job.
This position requires the demonstrated ability to:
· Communicate and work effectively with a wide range of people with varied skills, knowledge, and backgrounds.
· Maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information.
· Analyze and solve work-related problems and work independently on a variety of administrative work and technical assignments.
· Manage and coordinate multiple tasks and priorities to meet necessary deadlines.
· Work both independently and as a team player.
· I nterpret and apply accounting theory; interpret laws and regulations; work accurately with numerical detail; analyze, consolidate, and interpret accounting data.
