The ideal candidate will be expert in firmware design for embedded systems (ARM based) microprocessor systems and also possess a diverse skill set across analogue and digital hardware design aspects.&nbsp;</p><p><br></p><p>The role will encompass firmware and hardware design &amp; simulation, schematic capture, PCB layout and prototyping. You will work within the optics and fibre-optic R&amp;D team on the development of new modules and sub-systems for the industrial, aerospace &amp; defence (A&amp;D) and bio-photonics market segments.&nbsp;</p><p><br></p><p>This is an exciting opportunity to work within a multidisciplinary team including optical and mechanical engineers developing new cutting-edge products for applications in Satellite communications, industrial sensing and biomedical imaging, which will drive and deliver sustained revenue growth.</p><p><br></p><p><strong>RESPONSIBILITIES</strong></p><ul><li>Electronic design engineering from concept to manufacture and test.</li><li>Produce and maintain embedded firmware/software associated with digital control of opto-electronic sub-systems primarily using C/C++</li><li>Design of electronic sub-systems including requirements analysis and development of specifications.</li><li>Design of laser drivers, optical detection circuits and digital control electronics.</li><li>Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to perform electronic design, analysis and test.</li><li>Prepare presentation material and reports to a high standard for all phases of NPD/NPI.</li><li>Reliability and parts stress analysis, obsolescence management as required.</li><li>Support gate reviews and handover process from design to production.</li><li>Support manufacture and test of product on occasional basis.</li><li>Present results clearly and concisely for both internal and external customers.</li><li>Deliver projects to plan and within budget constraints.</li></ul><p><strong>&nbsp;SPECIALIST FUNCTIONAL KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED</strong></p><ul><li>Expertise in firmware development for embedded systems &amp; microprocessors</li><li>Experience in Firmware/Software development for ARM based micro’s</li><li>Schematic capture and layout (e.g. Altium)</li><li>Experience with prototyping and laboratory test equipment.</li><li>Knowledge or familiarity with MISRA or similar coding standards desirable</li><li>RF design experience would be an advantage.</li></ul><p><strong>COMPETENCIES</strong></p><ul><li>Adaptable in often rapid changing design requirements and customer needs.</li><li>Strong communication skills and problem-solving initiatives</li><li>Well organised, with the ability to hit tight deadlines, while maintaining attention to detail.</li><li>Driven, self-motived and autonomous with a ‘Can-do’ attitude</li><li>Strong verbal and written communication skills; able to engage customers technically and collaboratively.
