ABOUT THIS OPPORTUNITY Schedule/Hours: Part-time – 27.5 hours per week This position is responsible for: Plans, instructs, and leads members participating in fitness activities; ensures the proper maintenance of all fitness center equipment; promotes proper exercise techniques and nutrition habits. Key Responsibilities: Instructs members in the fundamentals of various fitness techniques; critiques and provides feedback to fitness and nutrition program participants regarding their performance level. Teach, demonstrate and implement fitness programs and classes suitable for children and adults of all ages and socio-economic backgrounds. Generates accident and/or incident reports as needed; submits proper documentation to supervisor upon completion. Maintains order and control over members participating in fitness activities; maintains open communication with participants’ parents to discuss performance, behavior and schedules. Plans, conducts, and leads team meetings on a regular basis ensuring all team members are aware of fitness activities, schedule and plans. Obtains, maintains, and secures fitness equipment in compliance with acceptable standards to ensure the long life of equipment. Protects The Salvation Army interests by observing and preventing potentials for liabilities due to injuries; ensures the safety of all participants. Assists the Program Coordinator by assessing the need for additional classes or rescheduling of daily activities; ensures the schedule of activities matches member expectations. Prepares and maintains weekly reports of class attendance. Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: Ability to meet attendance requirements Ability to read, write and communicate the English language Ability to perform duties with a combination of frequent sitting, standing and walking. Physical effort required associated with walking, running, standing, and moderate-to-advanced weightlifting in a fitness center environment. Work is performed in a normal fitness center environment where there are physical discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
