Eells Award for Program Excellence, Horizons is a unique residential summer camp dedicated to children and adults with developmental disabilities. As a Horizons' Summer Camp Counselor, expect to have a rewarding experience!</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p>Like many, Horizons is eager for the return of summer camp. We believe camp is the remedy to a year of being indoors and in front of screens. We are excited to get outdoors in a safe, fun-filled and positive way!</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p>As a Summer Camp Counselor, live and work alongside a group of individuals with developmental disabilities for the summer. Room and board provided. Pay is a stipend rate.</span> Camp runs from June 14th - August 22nd, 2026.  Weekly time off and break July 18th - July 24th</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">COLLEGE and HIGH SCHOOL students are encouraged to apply!</span><span> </span>We are happy to assist in working towards needed internship, college credit, or community service hours. Join Us!</p>\n<p>Find out more information online at<span> </span><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">www.horizonsct.org</span>.</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES of Summer Camp Counselor:</span></p>\n<p>· Attend and actively participate in pre-camp orientation and staff meetings.</p>\n<p>· Live in a cabin with assigned group and assist in Cabin Life</p>\n<p>· Eat meals and attend evening activities with assigned group.</p>\n<p>· Accompany campers to scheduled programs and actively support them through all stages of the activity.</p>\n<p>· Plan and initiate meaningful activities and events during quality time/free periods.</p>\n<p>· Work with Group Leader to develop cabin skills programs, quality time activities and camper hobbies.</p>\n<p>· Work cooperatively with other cabin staff to support campers.</p>\n<p>· Facilitate building camper self-esteem through<span> </span><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Positive Practices</span>: campers experience success, they have choices, they engage in a variety of activities, they have opportunities to be independent, and there is a natural flow of meaningful activities.</p>\n<p>· Demonstrates timely arrival to assigned location and throughout workday and follows the professional expectations as stated in Horizons’ Policies and Procedures.</p>\n<p>· Exhibits positive, effective management and observational skills. Implements positive practices under the guidance of Horizons’ Mission and Guiding Principles.</p>\n<p>· Communicates in a way that is accurate, timely, positive and capacity-based, focus-person centered and respectful of focus-person and stakeholder’s privacy.</p>\n<p>· Summer Camp Counselors follows all policies and procedures of Horizons (including mandated reporting).</p>",
