The individual will work with the Attending Veterinarian and other veterinary and animal care staff to ensure that all animal care and research at the institution is conducted in full compliance with the regulations of the Animal Welfare Act and the USDA, the University&rsquo;s Assurance with the Public Health Service and OLAW and all other relevant agencies. The BRF has been an AAALAC accredited facility since 1985 and aims to maintain full accreditation with AAALAC.</p><p>While this position is not eligible for our regular employee benefits, all RFU employees are eligible to accrue personal leave at a rate of 1 hour for every 40 hours worked per year. &nbsp; All RFU employees are also eligible to make unmatched contributions to voluntary supplemental pre-tax and post-tax retirement plans.</p><p><strong><u>Who We Are</u></strong></p><p>Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science (RFU) is a graduate health sciences university committed to serving the population through the interprofessional education of health and biomedical professionals and the discovery of knowledge dedicated to improving wellness. RFU is a national leader in interprofessional research and practices, and is nationally recognized for its research in areas including neuroscience, brain-related diseases, inherited disorders, proteomics, cancer cell biology and immunology, cardiac resuscitation, and gait and balance. &nbsp;</p><p><strong><u>Essential Duties &amp; Responsibilities</u></strong></p><p>Under administrative direction of the Institutional Official (IO) and the Attending Veterinarian (AV), assist in all facets of medical operations of the Biologic Resources Facility (BRF) of RFUMS.</p><ul><li>Provide veterinary medical support for all animal species housed at the BRF&nbsp;</li><li>Keep the IO and AV informed regarding animal health and welfare issues in the program via verbal and written reports.&nbsp;</li><li>Share emergency coverage with AV and other veterinary staff.&nbsp;</li><li>Provide training and supervision of staff regarding technical procedures, husbandry practices, and appropriate and humane use of animals.&nbsp;</li><li>Perform facility rounds on a routine basis and assist in medical records reviews.&nbsp;</li><li>Assist in the development and review of general policies, procedures and SOPs for the BRF.&nbsp;</li><li>Assist in the design and implementation of the animal welfare and preventative medicine program for all animal species, including sentinel programs.&nbsp;</li><li>Provide guidance to investigators involved in the care and use of animals regarding handling, immobilization, anesthesia, analgesia, surgery, and euthanasia.&nbsp;</li><li>Advise investigators in animal protocol development to ensure proper care for animals while on study.&nbsp;</li><li>Serve as a voting member of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee.&nbsp;</li><li>Participate in facility inspections, including those conducted by the IACUC, USDA, and AAALAC International, and prepare draft documents and reports as requested.</li><li>Other duties as assigned</li></ul><p><strong><u>Conditions of Employment</u></strong></p><ul><li>Must achieve satisfactory results from a background check</li></ul><p><strong><u>Required Education &amp; Experience</u></strong></p><ul><li>Doctor of Veterinary Medicine or equivalent from an AVMA-accredited college of veterinary medicine.&nbsp;</li><li>Licensed or licensable to practice veterinary medicine in the state of Illinois.&nbsp;</li><li>Board certification by the American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine or equivalent is strongly preferred.&nbsp;</li><li>Experience in a research setting in a laboratory animal veterinarian position, preferably in an AAALAC accredited facility&nbsp;</li><li>Experience in large and small animal veterinary medicine, surgery, and husbandry.&nbsp;</li><li>Veterinary medicine and surgical experience with swine highly desirable.&nbsp;</li><li>Demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience required.</li></ul><p><strong><u>Required Knowledge, Skills, &amp; Abilities</u></strong></p><ul><li>Large and small animal veterinary medicine, management and husbandry, and infectious disease.&nbsp;</li><li>Understanding of all federal, state and local regulatory requirements for laboratory animal care and use and AAALAC standards.&nbsp;</li><li>Understanding of biomedical research in animal models.&nbsp;</li><li>Excellent communication, leadership and interpersonal skills.&nbsp;</li><li>Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with department and research personnel.</li></ul><p><strong><u>Typical Physical Demands &amp; Working Conditions</u></strong></p><ul><li>Selected candidate must have the mental and physical capabilities to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.</li></ul><p>EOE, Including Disability / Vets</p></div></div></div></div></div></div>\n",
