Title: DME Assistant
Hours: Full-Time (40 Hours/Week), Monday-Friday, typical shifts fall between 7:30AM and 5:30PM
Location: Must be willing and able to travel to the following locations:
1111 Leffingwell Ave. NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49525 Wyoming, MI Work Environment: Onsite in a clinical setting

Patients at OAM will have access to our Specialized Surgeons, Physical and Occupational Therapists, MRI and X-ray services, and orthopaedic bracing. Patients are also able to receive care from our Bone Health Clinic, OAM Now Urgent Orthopaedic Care Clinic, and Surgery Center at MidTowne – all of which are committed to optimizing their treatment outcomes.

From neck to toe, and from traumatic injuries to chronic conditions, patients will receive compassionate care that will allow them to embrace their full potential. Position Summary
As a Durable Medical Equipment (DME) Assistant/Orthotic Fitter at OAM, you will play a vital role in supporting patients with musculoskeletal conditions by facilitating the proper selection, fitting, and utilization of orthopedic devices and equipment. Working closely with orthopedic surgeons, physical therapists, and patients, you will be responsible for ensuring the seamless delivery, fitting, and maintenance of various durable medical equipment, such as braces, splints, and crutches. Your expertise will contribute to improving patient mobility, comfort, and overall quality of life, as you provide personalized guidance, education, and assistance in navigating the complexities of orthopedic devices. This role requires a compassionate and detail-oriented individual with a strong commitment to enhancing patient outcomes and promoting the field of orthopedic care.
Essential Responsibilities
Review physician orders for patient care and provide desired product to the patient; properly fit device to patient. Provide education to patient on the application, use, care and expected outcome for products as indicated by the physician instructions and manufacturer recommendations. Perform patient calls as necessary for additional education and problem resolution. Track, maintain, and order DME as needed to maintain needed inventory levels. Apply understanding of orthopedic conditions in order to follow standards of care and best practice guidelines for safety. Document all services provided both accurately and in a timely fashion. Ensure that all necessary documentation is obtained as it relates to payer requirements, standard operating procedures, and any other compliance requirements. Educate patients in regard to insurance plans and provisions, financial responsibility, and collection of patient portion. Stay current with changing reimbursement as to maintain profitability. Promote and foster good relations interdepartmentally with physicians, clinical staff, case managers, payers, and suppliers. Comply with all elements of HIPAA, Medicare, Medicaid, and any other required programs. Perform other duties or functions as assigned.
Required & Preferred Qualifications
Education, Training, and Experience:
Required: 1+ year(s) of experience in the healthcare field. High School diploma or GED. Preferred: BA/BS in related field. 1+ year(s) of experience with the application of durable medical equipment (DME/Orthotics) preferred. Certified Orthopedic Fitter, Orthopedic Fitter, Orthopedic Technician, Athletic Trainer, Physical Therapy Assistant, Occupational Therapy Assistant Medical Assistant, or comparable professional medical certification preferred. Specific Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
Knowledge of medical terminology. Technical product and clinical competency. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Excellent organizational, multi-tasking, and time management skills. Self-motivated with the ability to work both independently and on a team. Proven positive record of attendance and timeliness when reporting to work. Working knowledge of computers and relevant applications, including electronic health records. Tech savvy; knowledge of EMR systems preferred Motor, Sensory, and Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time. Employee must have normal or correctible range of hearing and eyesight. Frequent bending, stooping, lifting and reaching required. Visual and auditory acuity to communicate with corkers, patients and customer groups. Employee may be required to lift up to 40 pounds.
