This is a department funded position. Students that meet this position's requirements are encouraged to apply. Manager: Catherine Davis Location: On Campus Hours: Varies week to week Position Duration: Academic Year Augie Access Peer Navigator Position Overview Augie Access is a post-secondary transition program for students with intellectual or developmental disabilities. Peer Navigators are integral in supporting students as peer tutors, job coaches, and social mentors. As the needs of Augie Access students change throughout the year, the job assignments adjust and change as well. Major Areas of Responsibility Assisting Augie Access students with academic work, studying, and time management skills Supporting students in classrooms Mentoring Augie Access students through supporting students in social events, independent living skills and health/safety Job coaching students in internship settings in the Sioux Falls community Qualifications Must be willing to work scheduled hours Strong communication and decision-making skills Ability to work independently Must be dependable Must model good social and academic etiquette Willing to be flexible Previous work with people with disabilities (preferred but not required) Desired Skills Flexible Previous work with people with disabilities (preferred but not required) Strong communication and decision-making skills Ability to work independently Dependable Model good social and academic etiquette Working Conditions Independently assisting and working throughout campus with various students throughout the day in a variety of settings (classroom, cafeteria, residence halls, library, internship sites) Varying times depending on the schedules of students and peer navigators (weekends, nights and days are all options). Most work will be done indoors but occasionally work may require outside work such as attending sporting events, exercise or internship sites May be asked to transport students throughout the Sioux Falls area in personal vehicle (if the candidate does not have a vehicle, he/she will not be assigned to these jobs and this will not disqualify a candidate from the job) Physical Requirements Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards. Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards. Other Information All Augustana University employees must know and follow job safety procedures, attend any required health and safety training, proactively promote safety at work and promptly report actual and potential accidents and injuries. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job duty satisfactorily.
