Position Summary
The Director of Development is responsible for designing, executing, and growing FamilyMatters' fundraising and events portfolio. This role is the primary driver of revenue diversification and donor relationships for FamilyMatters, working in close partnership with the Executive Director, the JAFCO development team, and the FamilyMatters Board of Trustees. The Director of Development leads all aspects of event production, individual giving, donor cultivation and stewardship, and community engagement, ensuring that fundraising activity is robust enough to meet or exceed the organization's strategic goals. This position also plays a key role in supporting the capital campaign and compliance with major gift agreements.
Role and Responsibilities
Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Fundraising Strategy & Execution
Develop and implement a comprehensive annual fundraising plan with clear goals, timelines, and metrics
Build and manage a diversified revenue portfolio including individual giving, annual fund, major gifts, planned giving, and corporate sponsorships
Support and assist in managing the capital campaign, including donor outreach, stewardship, and budget tracking in coordination with the campaign director and Executive Director
Ensure compliance with all obligations under major donor gift agreements, including reporting, documentation, and relationship maintenance
Identify and cultivate new donor prospects; manage an active portfolio of individual and institutional donors through all phases of the donor cycle
Collaborate with the Director of Grants and Partnerships to align fundraising strategy with grant priorities and partnership opportunities
Partner with the JAFCO development team to ensure consistency with agency-wide fundraising standards, messaging, and strategy
Events Management
Plan, manage, and execute all FamilyMatters fundraising events, luncheons, card parties, donor receptions, and other signature events
Develop event concepts that align with the FamilyMatters brand and JAFCO standards, ensuring a high-quality donor experience
Manage event budgets, vendor relationships, venue logistics, volunteers, and committee engagement
Track event performance metrics (attendance, revenue, cost-to-raise ratio) and provide post-event analysis and recommendations
Coordinate event communications including invitations, sponsorship materials, program books, and follow-up donor acknowledgment
Donor Relations & Stewardship
Implement a consistent, relationship-centered stewardship program for all donor segments
Prepare personalized donor communications including gift acknowledgments, impact reports, and cultivation correspondence
Support the Executive Director and Board of Trustees in major donor engagement, prospect meetings, and solicitations
Maintain accurate and current donor records in the CRM system; produce regular fundraising reports for agency leadership and the Board
Community Engagement & Brand Presence
Represent FamilyMatters at community events, speaking engagements, and organizational partnerships to build visibility and expand the donor base
Collaborate with the Greater Philadelphia Jewish community, corporate partners, foundations, and civic organizations to cultivate relationships that support FamilyMatters' mission
Partner with staff on impact storytelling to develop compelling donor communications, case statements, and fundraising collateral
Any other reasonable duties assigned by supervisor
Qualifications
Competencies
Strategic thinking and results-oriented fundraising execution

Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Professionalism, integrity, and discretion in handling donor relationships
Cultural competence and sensitivity to the communities FamilyMatters serves
Comfort with data and CRM tools; proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
Qualifications and Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree required; master's degree in nonprofit management, business, communications, or a related field preferred
Minimum of five years of progressive nonprofit fundraising experience, including events management
Demonstrated success in donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship
Experience managing fundraising campaigns, preferably including capital campaigns
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
Available to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends as needed for events
Valid driver's license and clean driving record
First Aid and CPR certification (training provided)
Strongly prefer maintaining Bodily Injury Liability insurance of $100,000 per claim / $300,000 per incident on personal automobile when transporting clients or event materials
