Description HR Coordinator - Non-exempt Part-time up to 30 hours per week About Schmitt Music For more than 125 years, Schmitt Music has helped people discover the joy of making music. As a respected, family-owned musical instrument retailer serving the Twin Cities and surrounding region, we support musicians at every stage of their musical journey, from first-time students to professional performers. About the Role The HR Coordinator supports day-to-day HR operations by managing employee lifecycle administration, maintaining accurate records, and helping ensure HR processes are carried out consistently and efficiently. This role plays a key part in onboarding, offboarding, HR systems updates, compliance documentation, and employee support, while also helping improve the overall effectiveness of the HR function. Core Responsibilities Coordinate onboarding and offboarding activities, including documentation, system updates, and process communication. Maintain employee records, personnel files, and HRIS data with a high level of accuracy and confidentiality. Support leave, benefits, payroll, and compliance administration in partnership with internal or external providers. Respond to employee and manager questions related to HR processes, policies, and routine requests. Works closely with finance leadership and payroll team members Stays current on state and federal HR compliance and laws Identify process improvements that increase efficiency, consistency, and employee experience within HR operations. Qualifications 1–3 years of HR coordination, people operations, or administrative support experience required Associate or bachelor’s degree in HR, business, or a related field preferred. 1 year experience with HRIS platforms (preferably Paycom), spreadsheets, and employee recordkeeping. Strong detail orientation, organization, discretion, and follow-through. Willing to take initiative to ensure the HR function runs smoothly. Comfort supporting multiple priorities in a fast-moving environment.
