Job Summary Saint Mary’s University in Winona, MN has an opening for a Residence Hall Director. This is a full-time, live-in position responsible for the management of multiple residence halls housing approximately 150 to 250 students. This 12-month professional staff member fosters an inclusive and welcoming community focused on the safety and well-being of their residents while providing an exceptional residential student experience. Specific duties include assessing students’ needs, guiding and supervising undergraduate student staff, conduct investigations and judicial meetings, counseling referrals, hall/facilities management, and other administrative duties. Salary Range: $36,600 Main Duties & Responsibilities Oversee a residence area consisting of 2-3 residence halls and approximately 150 to 250 student residents. Supervise and mentor a team of 5-9 resident assistants. Manage the vibrant residential community within the residence halls that addresses the academic, spiritual, social, and physical needs of the residents. Collaborate with other departments to promote departmental programs and services that respond to ongoing student needs and interests. Collaborate with other departments to address the overall wellness of the students. Coordinate routine duty night coverage for the hall and area. Oversee general facility management and maintenance of area, including maintenance requests and cleanliness within the halls. Share in the student experience by taking meals in the student dining hall during the academic year. Meal plan is provided. Participate in on-call rotation with other residence hall directors. Assist in the recruitment, selection, and orientation of resident assistants, junior resident assistants and professional staff. Address student issues arising from student conduct, counseling, and crisis-related concerns for the hall or area, investigating student conduct incidents and writing required reports. Understand and train others on all residence life / judicial affairs software (i.e., eRezLife and Maxient). Other Duties & Responsibilities Perform other administrative duties and assignments as designated by the dean of students or the vice president of student development, to include departmental, divisional, and university meetings and training programs, required residence life meetings, judicial affairs, early alerts, professional development, programming, U.S. Census, and housing. Position requires living and dining on campus. Qualifications Experience and Education Requirements Bachelor’s degree required. Prior residence life or student affairs experience preferred. Must have a valid driver’s license, good driving record, and pass a criminal background check. May consider other acceptable equivalent combinations of training and experience. Essential Knowledge & Skills Exceptional interpersonal skills to relate well with undergraduate students in a residential setting. Establish, articulate and enforce university policies and expectations. Excellent communication, organizing, planning, and multi-tasking skills. Collaborative, team-oriented work style. Skilled at crisis/conflict management techniques. A demonstrated commitment to the Lasallian Catholic mission. Develops and maintains good working relationships and communications at all levels of the organization. Observes safety guidelines and follows safety procedures established by the university. Self-motivated with the ability to work effectively alone and within a team environment. Physical Demands ☐ Sedentary work. Sedentary work involves lifting no more than 10 pounds at a time and occasionally lifting or carrying articles like docket files, ledgers, and small tools. Although a sedentary job is defined as one which involves sitting, a certain amount of walking and standing is often necessary in carrying out job duties. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required occasionally and other sedentary criteria are met. ☒ Light work. Light work involves lifting no more than 20 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 pounds. Even though the weight lifted may be very little, a job is in this category when it requires a good deal of walking or standing, or when it involves sitting most of the time with some pushing and pulling of arm or leg controls. To be considered capable of performing a full or wide range of light work, you must have the ability to do substantially all of these activities. ☐ Medium work.
