This role requires deep expertise in AWS, full stack Java and Python development, data management, identity standards, and a proven track record of building enterprise scale software as a service solutions. As a Principal Engineer, you will be a technical leader and strategic advisor, driving architectural decisions that impact millions of users globally.\n\n\\ \\ Candidate must be located in Ontario or British Columbia.\\ \n\n What you'll be doing: \n\n Architect and develop large scale, mission critical platform services for millions of users across the globe, leveraging AWS native technologies including Lambda, ECS/EKS, Athena, RDS, Redshift, Glue, and S3 using common Java and Python frameworks and libraries.\n Build and maintain sophisticated back end services and related front end applications using Java, Python, React, and related modern web technologies.\n Develop and maintain Identity and Platform related REST APIs with event driven architectures to enable seamless integration between platform services, analytics tools, and customer facing applications.\n Lead the design and implementation of robust data pipelines, data lakes, and data warehouses using modern architectures (Iceberg, Parquet, columnar formats) to support real time and batch analytics at scale.\n Drive technical strategy and architectural decisions for the Platform, including query optimization, performance tuning, and cost optimization across AWS services.\n Design and implement efficient data storage solutions across relational databases (SQL Server, Redshift, PostgreSQL) and non relational databases (DynamoDB, S3), ensuring optimal performance and cost efficiency.\n Serve as the technical lead and mentor for engineering teams, conducting architecture reviews, code reviews, and providing guidance on complex technical challenges.\n Collaborate with cross functional teams including data engineers, analytics engineers, product managers, and DevOps to deliver innovative Platform, Identity and BI solutions that drive business value.\n Champion engineering excellence by establishing best practices, design patterns, and coding standards for data intensive applications.\n Evaluate and integrate emerging AWS services and open source technologies to continuously improve platform capabilities and developer productivity.\n Troubleshoot and resolve complex performance issues in distributed data systems, optimizing query performance, data processing workflows, and infrastructure costs.\n Participate in strategic planning and roadmap development, translating business requirements into scalable technical solutions.\n Contribute to the team on call rotation, providing expert level support for production environments and mentoring team members on incident response.\n\n Requirements\n\n 10+ years of professional experience in software development, with at least 5 years focused on service based architectures, business intelligence, or identity and application platforms in enterprise SaaS environments.\n Deep expertise in AWS data and analytics services including Athena, Redshift, Glue, S3, QuickSight, Lake Formation , with hands on experience architecting and operating production workloads.\n Advanced proficiency in Python for backend services, data processing, or ETL/ELT development, with strong knowledge of frameworks such as FastAPI, Flask, or similar.\n Similar proficiency with Java for backend services using Spring Boot or other similar frameworks.\n Experience with Identity management standards including SAML, OIDC and related platforms and architectural patterns.\n Expert level SQL skills including complex query optimization, window functions, CTEs, and performance tuning across multiple database engines (Redshift, PostgreSQL, Athena).\n Strong full stack development capabilities with proficiency in React, JavaScript/TypeScript , and modern front end frameworks for building application UIs and/or analytics dashboards and data visualization interfaces.\n Strong, in depth experience with AI coding assistants such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, and Windsurf to accelerate development and improve code quality.\n Experience with both relational databases (Redshift, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, Aurora) and non relational databases (DynamoDB, OpenSearch, DocumentDB).\n Demonstrated ability to design and implement scalable event driven architectures (Lamda, EventBridge, SQS, SNS), and microservices patterns.\n Experience with AWS CDK (Cloud Development Kit) or CloudFormation/Terraform for infrastructure as code and automated deployment pipelines.\n Proven track record of leading technical initiatives, mentoring senior engineers, and driving architectural decisions in complex distributed systems.\n Experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing frameworks (pytest, Playwright), and DevOps tools (e.g. Datadog, Dynatrace) and practices for SAAS platforms.\n Excellent problem solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex issues in large scale, distributed data systems.\n Strong understanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC), Agile methodology, and experience leading technical teams through the full development lifecycle.\n Outstanding communication skills with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to both technical and non technical stakeholders.\n Adaptable with the ability to switch technical stacks and domains to respond to changing customer and business needs while maintaining strategic focus.\n\n·      \n\n Preferred Qualifications: \n\n Experience integrating applications with common Identity and Access Management platforms and tools (e.g. Ping, Auth0, Okta) in a multi tenant enterprise SAAS solution.\n Experience with Apache Iceberg, Parquet, or similar columnar formats and modern data lake architectures.\n Understanding of data modelling techniques for both OLTP and OLAP workloads, including dimensional modelling, star/snowflake schemas, and denormalization strategies.\n Familiarity with machine learning workflows and integration of ML models into data pipelines.\n Experience with real time streaming data processing using Kinesis, Kafka, or similar technologies.\n Contributions to open source projects or technical thought leadership (blog posts, conference talks, patents).\n Experience with multi cloud or hybrid cloud
