Accountant II The Accountant II is assigned to the Accounting Office of the Administrative Operations Division. Work involves maintaining, posting, and balancing accounting documents, records, examining paperwork and tracking invoices according to agency policy. Works under moderate supervision, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgement. This position: · Maintains and balances financial statements, reports, schedules, and exhibits; processes general journal entries; and processes payment, cash, purchase, travel, and related vouchers; · Researches and reconciles discrepancies in accounts, bank statements, or appropriation balances; and reports findings. · Audits accounting and financial documents for accuracy and compliance with departmental policies and procedures and state and federal statutes. · Classifies, codes, posts, and balances financial accounting documents and records. · Reviews agency accounting records, such as expenditure, fund, appropriation, expense code and ensures agency travel transactions are accounted for properly. Audits accounting and financial documents for accuracy and compliance with departmental policies and procedures and with state and federal statutes. · Prepares monthly status analysis of account balances and expenditures; and prepares technical reports on estimates, cost data, and budget items. · May assist in making recommendations for improvements, adaptations, or revisions to the accounting system and accompanying procedures. · Performs other duties as assigned. Preferences for this position include: · Using Integrated Statewide Administrative System (ISAS), Centralized Accounting and Payroll/Personnel System (CAPPS), Uniform Statewide Accounting System (USAS); and · Auditing and processing State of Texas expenditure and travel vouchers. This position requires demonstrated knowledge of: · State laws, rules, procedures, and regulations relevant to job requirements. · Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and procedures affecting the maintenance of accounting records and automated accounting systems. · Ability to analyze, consolidate, and interpret accounting data. This position requires demonstrated skill in: · Problem solving and critical thinking. · Using Microsoft Office software applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and SharePoint. · Using personal computers sufficient to enter and extract data from related systems and programs such as Centralized Accounting Payroll and Personnel (CAPPS) and other systems required to perform the job. This position requires the demonstrated ability to: · Communicate and work effectively with a wide range of people with varied skills, knowledge, and backgrounds. · Learning new data tools and technologies to apply in the agency’s data environment. · Maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information. · Analyze and solve work-related problems and work independently on a variety of administrative work and technical assignments. · Manage workload and priorities to meet necessary deadlines. · Work both independently and as a team player. · Establish and maintain effective working relationships with both internal and external customers. · Ability to use personal computer, calculator by touch and related office equipment.
