Our team of specialist pathologists, scientists, technicians, phlebotomists, couriers, and shared services personnel deliver a world-class service that together collects, analyses, and reports over 7 million patient results annually. About the role | Mō te tūranga: Our Histology Department is currently searching for a dedicated, enthusiastic and competent Medical Laboratory Technician . This is a permanent, part-time position of 64 hours per fortnight, based at Hutt Hospital. You will be willing to learn new skills and work well independently as well as part of a team. We are looking for someone who is highly organised, detail-oriented and friendly, with a strong focus on quality and customer service. This role offers the opportunity to develop your technical skills within a supportive laboratory environment while contributing to high-quality patient outcomes. The successful applicant must have a high degree of accuracy and be self-sufficient to excel in this role. Key Responsibilities Receive, process and store specimens correctly, ensuring urgent samples are prioritised. Organise and prioritise workload to meet turnaround times and deadlines. Perform laboratory procedures in accordance with established protocols. Operate laboratory equipment and carry out routine quality control, maintenance and equipment checks. Recognise and report equipment or process issues to the appropriate person. Use the Laboratory Information System (LIS) to generate worklists and enter data accurately. About you | He kōrero mōu To be successful in this role you need to have:  Experience in immunohistochemistry is desirable but not essential The ability to work in a methodical manner adhering to strict quality procedure guidelines. A team focus with initiative, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and possess the ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment. A proactive and adaptable approach to learning new processes and supporting continuous improvement within the laboratory. Excellent attention to detail, with good record-keeping skills. The ability to work independently, particularly during night-shift hours, while in a supported role. Registration with the Medical Sciences Council of New Zealand and a current Annual Practicing Certificate is essential. Eligibility to work in New Zealand. If you do not yet have your registration with the Medical Sciences Council of New Zealand, we will also consider candidates who are in the process of becoming qualified.
