Description
We are searching for a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner — someone who works well in a fast-paced setting. To practice in an advanced role to provide health maintenance for well newborns and infants, episodic care for ill infants, and comprehensive care for newborns and infants with chronic conditions. The Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) practices through delegation of a medical staff attending and works collaboratively with other members of the health care team. Practicing under established guidelines, the NNP delivers medical aspects of care and assumes independent and interdependent responsibilities in the assessment, diagnosis and initiation of treatment and procedures. Job duties are performed in a manner that is developmentally appropriate for the ages of patients served. As an advanced practice nurse, the NNP may be involved in transport, education, consultation, research and evaluation of clinical practice at various levels.
Since 2003, the Texas Children’s Hospital Community Initiatives program has provided neonatal, pediatric and maternal fetal medicine services to community hospitals. Baylor College of Medicine/Texas Children's Hospital Providers oversee care for all high-risk neonates and the majority of well newborns at community partner hospitals. Today, the program has expanded to include partnerships with 12 hospitals across Houston and surrounding areas, supporting our vision of Right Care, Right Place, Right Time.

Qualifications:
Master of Science in Nursing
Current valid license as registered nurse in the state of Texas
Current NNP-BC certification from the National Certification Corp (NCC) Board of Nurse Examiners
Full authorization to practice by the Texas Board of Nursing
Two (2) years of Neonatal Nurse Practitioner experience
AHA/AAP hospital-based provider for Neonatal Resuscitation Program
Delivery room resuscitation and stabilization experience required
Responsibilities:
Utilizes advanced practice knowledge and skill to systematically collect and evaluate health assessment data and to manage a caseload of patients
Demonstrates effective communication skills and works to eliminate communication barriers
Serves as an educational resource for the patient and family, community, and other health care professionals
Applies new knowledge relevant to pediatric nursing to clinical practice
Demonstrates current professional, managerial, and/or technical knowledge and skills
Demonstrates nurse practitioner’s role behaviors consistent with the development of advanced nursing practice
Participates in departmental quality improvement program annually
