    "description": "<h2>Job Description</h2>\n<p><strong><u>JOB SUMMARY</u></strong></p>\n<p> </p>\n<p>Performs semi-skilled and skilled work in the operation of heavy equipment and machinery used in construction, maintenance, repair, flood control, and/or landfill operations.</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p><strong><u>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS</u></strong></p>\n<p> </p>\n<p>Three (3) years of closely related experience.</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p>Possession of a valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) issued by the State of Utah at the time of hire or within ninety (90) days of the hire date. Some positions may require a Class A CDL within ninety (90) days of the hire date.</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p>Must possess a current Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) Medical Card at the time of hire or within thirty (30) days of the hire date.</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p>Must obtain forklift certifications within three (3) months of the hire date.</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p>Some positions may be required to obtain flagging certification within three (3) months of the hire date.</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p>Must receive a verified negative test result on a mandatory drug test before starting in this position. Will be subject to random alcohol and drug testing. May be subject to post-accident and reasonable suspicion alcohol and drug testing. </p>\n<p> </p>\n<p><strong><u>ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS</u></strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>Operates a variety of heavy equipment, including bulldozers, large front-end loaders, track hoes, 10-wheel dump trucks, scrapers, compactors, motor graders, excavators, and snow removal equipment to perform assigned Division-specific job duties.</li>\n <li>Performs Division-specific journeyman-level maintenance, repair, and construction work.</li>\n <li>Performs tasks requiring the use of a variety of hand tools and equipment, including picks, shovels, rakes, and chainsaws.</li>\n <li>Checks, services, and performs routine maintenance on equipment; makes minor equipment repairs and field tests repaired equipment to ensure operating efficiency.</li>\n <li>Follows safety requirements in accordance with OSHA and/or MUTCD regulations and acceptable industry standards.</li>\n <li>Trains new or less experienced operators in proper equipment operation and care.</li>\n <li>Responds to emergency situations.</li>\n</ul>\n<ul>\n <li> </li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong><u>Flood Control</u></strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>Installs, repairs, and maintains storm drain lines, storm drains, and catch basins to prevent flooding.</li>\n <li>Assists with tree trimming, flagging, filling and placing sandbags, and removing ice jams from streams.</li>\n <li>Maintains pressurized and non-pressurized irrigation systems, including repair and maintenance of sprinkler systems.</li>\n</ul>\n<p> </p>\n<p><strong><u>KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSA)</u></strong></p>\n<p><strong>Knowledge of:</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>Heavy equipment operation and maintenance</li>\n <li>Equipment inspections and reporting procedures</li>\n <li>OSHA and/or MUTCD safety practices and procedures</li>\n <li>Principles and standards of solid waste disposal, flood control, and/or construction, maintenance, and repair procedures</li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong>Skills and Abilities to: </strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>Operate a variety of heavy equipment and trucks in all weather conditions</li>\n <li>Respond to emergency first aid needs</li>\n <li>Perform heavy manual labor</li>\n <li>Follow verbal and written procedures and instructions</li>\n <li>Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing</li>\n <li>Maintain effective working relationships with other employees, vendors, and the public</li>\n</ul>\n<p> </p>\n<p><strong><u>WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS</u></strong></p>\n<p> </p>\n<p>This position requires driving and sitting in uncomfortable positions for extended periods; a full range of motion in the shoulders, arms, hands, wrists, legs, and feet; and manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p>Requires bending, stooping, lifting, and carrying heavy objects weighing up to 60 lbs. on an intermittent basis.</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p>Constant exposure to traffic hazards, extreme heat and cold, noise, dust, fumes, grease, and unsanitary conditions.</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p><strong><u>IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING THIS POSITION</u></strong></p>\n<p> </p>\n<p>This position is subject to being called to work prior to or after the scheduled shift.</p>",
