Description

Description: Many college-ready high school graduates nationwide do not enroll in college or fail to persist beyond their first or second year. The Alumni College Mentoring Program (ACMP) is designed to address this challenge by supporting students in their transition to and through college. This is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact while gaining valuable mentoring experience. As a mentor, you will share your college experience with incoming and continuing Frontier students and support their academic and personal success. The ACMP is currently offered at Metropolitan Community College (MCC) and the University of Missouri–Kansas City (UMKC). We are seeking caring, motivated, and dedicated Frontier alumni to serve as mentors for students enrolled at these institutions. Mentors will support both first- and second-year students at MCC and UMKC. This role offers flexible scheduling while providing consistent support to assigned students (“college fellows”). Mentors may earn up to $10,000 annually, depending on their assigned caseload. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis throughout the year. As an Alumni College Mentor, you will support students by: Providing guidance on college enrollment and persistence Delivering ongoing mentoring to promote academic and personal success Assisting with FAFSA renewal and financial aid processes Sharing information about scholarships, internships, and employment opportunities Facilitating networking opportunities with fellow students and alumni Encouraging student engagement through program incentives and recognition Connecting students to Frontier alumni resources and benefits Advising students on college expectations, time management, and effective study strategies Conducting regular check-ins to monitor progress and provide support Key Benefits to You: Strengthen your professional resume and career profile Make a meaningful contribution to your community and future students Build lasting professional and personal connections Develop leadership, communication, and mentoring skills through hands-on experience Impact on the Frontier Community By participating in the Alumni College Mentoring Program, you are contributing to a stronger, more connected Frontier community. This program helps increase college enrollment, persistence, and graduation rates among Frontier graduates. Through your support, students are more likely to succeed academically, remain engaged in their college journey, and achieve their long-term career goals. In addition, the program strengthens the Frontier alumni network by fostering meaningful connections between past and current students. This creates a cycle of support, leadership, and opportunity that benefits future generations of Frontier students while enhancing the overall reputation and success of Frontier Schools. The program also supports the Frontier School System by reinforcing a strong college-going culture across all schools. As alumni give back and share their experiences, they provide current students with real-world insight, motivation, and clear pathways to success after high school. This alignment between K–12 education and postsecondary outcomes helps improve college readiness, student achievement, and long-term success for Frontier students. What You Can Expect From the Program Personalized Support: Receive guidance on academic planning, financial aid, and navigating campus life based on your individual needs. Ongoing supervision and support from program staff throughout the year Flexible Scheduling: Participate in mentoring sessions on a monthly, quarterly, or as-needed basis. Consistent engagement may qualify students for program incentives such as food vouchers or gift cards. Connection Building: Gain access to peer connections and campus resources to support your academic and personal success. Ongoing Engagement: Stay connected with the Frontier alumni community to receive updates, opportunities, and continued support from fellow students and mentors. Feedback: Regular feedback to support mentor growth and effectiveness Professional Developments: Opportunities for professional development related to leadership and mentoring. You will receive weekly/biweekly support and training Who Can Apply Required Qualifications: Must be a Frontier alumnus currently enrolled at Metropolitan Community College (MCC) or University of Missouri–Kansas City (UMKC) Minimum cumulative college GPA of 3.00 Commitment to approximately 15–20 hours per month Completion of at least 30 college credit hours at MCC or 60 college credit hours at UMKC (preferred) Prior experience in coaching, mentoring, tutoring, or advising (preferred)
